Leaking anitfreeze(somewhere) pressure test good. Temp. gauge in car stays normal. Cannot find where it is leaking from. Garage cannot locate problem. Going to have pressure test on head gasket next. Any other cause??? Why is replacing them so expensive if it is? Sure hope the garage will work on payments.

Sounds like the thermostat is stuck closed. It is possible for a new thermostat to be faulty. Check fluid level in PS and or leaking hose line. The temp gauge could be one of three things, 1 the gauge is bad,2broken wire, most possible is the sensor that attaches to the engine is bad or damaged.
take it to a radiator shop and have a cooling system pressure test to find where the leak is
have the shop do a compression test to determine a head gasket
that way at least you are armed with some answers
You are going to have to find where the leak is first before looking at the temp guage problem. I would pressure test the cooling system and look for leaks. check the heater core...make sure thats not leaking. make sure the engine oil and transmission fluids are not over full and milky. Good Luck
Do a fuel pressure leak down test, the test port is located on the fuel rail that supplies fuel to the injectors on the top of the engine, the pressure should not drop more than 5 PSI after the engine is shut down, make sure the fuel gauge (special tool) is not leaking at the schrader port connection. If the fuel pressure leaks down right away you need to replace the fuel pump inside the fuel tank, it has a defective pressure check valve. I understand you can buy a universal test gauge from most parts stores for about $20.00 that hooks up to the above mentioned test port.
this is most likely the water pump if it is leaking at front of engine, the water pump is under the large timing belt cover and driven by the timing belt, so both are changed at the same time.
