Truck just quit at a redlight intersection today and acts like it has no gas. The gas guage also goes from empty too 1/2 tank too empty too full some times for no apperant reason!!

So do you know if you have gas in your tank or not? You need to check for fuel pressure to make sure your pump is working. Inside you fuel tank is a fuel pump module which consists of your fuel pump and fuel level sender. It sounds like you are going to need to replace that. Can you hear your fuel pump buzzing. Open you gas filler cap and put your ear next to it while having a helper turn the key to the run position not start position. You should hear it run for about 5-10 seconds and then shut off. If you don't hear it you have a problem with your pump. It can be with the wiring, feul pump relay, or the pump itself. It is usually the pump. But even if you can hear the pump you still need to check your fuel pressure as the pump may be buzzing but not working correctly. Also check your fuel filter.

There is no external feul pump, it is in the feul tank. Also there is no external feul filter, it is in the tank at the bottom of the feul pump assembly.I owned one of these trucks and was not pleased by the location of the feul filter either. If you can find a CARTER supplier they make a cheaper replacment that is same quality as oem.Good luck!

Was low on feul it dead .put feul in it truck won"t start?

Hit the bottom of the fuel tank while trying to start it. If it starts then your fuel pump is going out. It may keep working as long as you keep fuel in it. but it may not work the next time you try to start it. They are just funny that way. Either way it needs replaced.

U have a defective electric fuel pump, the fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank, u must either pull the truck bed off or remove the fuel tank to access it, removing the fuel tank is best way and it is the way the factory repair manual recommends doing the job. here is the part number a very good quality after market fuel pump module asssmeby, about 1/2 the factory price, used quite afew myself and had no problems.the pice is from www.rockauto.com

U will also need to replace the fuel filter and the wiring connector at the for the pump at the fuel tank, it is a known problem on this model, the connector gets heat damaged when the pump starts to wear out.

1989 Chevy Truck 350 Stalled Wont Start After I filled Gas Fuel

You need to check the fuel pressure to the TBI. I just fought one which was doing the same thing. I pulled the fuel tank to replace the fuel pump. It turned out to be the short hose from the fuel pump to the steel line coming out of the tank. It had a split in it so I wasn't getting enough fuel pressure. Some places show two pumps available. One you can pull the unit and replace just the pump. The other the pump and sender are all one unit. Hopefully you have the first one. The second is around $300.

The easiest way to get to the top of the tank is to pull the front 6 bolts mounting the bed and loosen the back two. Take the three screws from the filler neck and unhook the rear axle vent tube. You can then take an engine hoist and lift the front of the box. You can get right to the pump and gauge assemble in the top of the tank. Most times, this works easier than emptying the fuel tank and removing it.

Most likely sender in fuel tank is bad and fuel tank would have to be removed to check.
