Question about 2003 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible

1 Answer

Check Engine light just came on. The gass cap was found to be loose. How do I reset the system (disconnect the battery?) to confirm if the loose cap was the problem? What other issues might cause the light to come on and is there any way to determine if a "service appointment" is really required? Thanks, Mike

The Check Engine light, Trac OFF and Vsc lights are on. I cleaned the MAF sensor on the air intake. but it didn't help. What should I do?

Since your "check engine" is ON, have some fault codes stored in the PCM (Powertrain Control Module / computer); to know exactly about what codes are the, will need scanned the PCM wit OBD II scaner reader tool; some autozone or autoshop with this tool make this for free. The check engine light can come on for 1 of about 200 different reasons, most times it's something simple such as a evap leak or loose gas cap.

As a factory default any time the check engine light comes on the TRAC and VSC systems are disabled as a default.

Soft reset could be disconnected the battery few minutes (sometimes work), but if the codes turn on again, is confirm, have fault codes stored and need to know what is to solve it.

Try this ans send us news about this code numbers founded.

Can to high of octane cause the check engine light to come on? I just bought a 2001 VW Golf and when I filled it up I put 91 octane in it then the engine light came on. Ive tryed the gas cap but light...

Wrong octane could very well cause the check light to come on as well as a million other reasons. But make sure the fuel cap is on tight sometimes that can trigger a code. If you still have the light on after 50 miles I would have the OBDII system read to get the codes of why the check engine light is on. Elevation should have no effect.

Engine light on

You may have real problem or simple problem such as loose gas cap.
But be real careful before DISCONNECTING the batteries.
Most vehicles from 1996 and newer have a stay alive memory built-in to the computer system. When you disconnect the battery from the vehicle to reset the check engine light. The computer will be able to hold the memory and the code for several minutes and in some cases several hours.

Check engine light just came on tonite and ran the scanner and it says PO4055 code and also gas cap loose tightened the gas cap is this a vaccum hose on the emmission system ?

if the cap was loose then just drive around and the light should go out in a week or so depending on how many start/stop cycles you do. You could disconnect the neg battery but that would mess with other things, sooo just be patient. The light will go out on its own after the computer is satisfied there is no leak. A scanner can reset the light.

How to reset my engine light the dash engine light came on and i need to know how to reset it last time it did that it was because my wife did not turn the gas cap all the way and they chared me 60.00...

The gas cap was NOT b/s. A loose cap upsets the evap monitoring within the engine check system. If you have an engine light on there are two options on a OBDII compliant car. 1 The engine light will stay on showing there is a fault that requires attention. 2 The engine light will stay on until the ECU has completed a series of checks over a predetermined period of driving cycles, if the fault is no longer active the engine light will be off when you next start the car after the last successful check. Hope this helps - good luck.

What makes "check engine" light come on

a code stored in the computer will tell you what system triggered the check engine light.
The most common is an o2 sensor or evap code set off by a loose or faulty gas cap.after the vehicle is started about 50 times with no fault the light will go out.You can disconnect the battery for 1 minute and reset the computer, and unless the fault is still there, the check engine light will not come back on.Before you do this make sure you have the radio code handy, disconnecting the battery will lock out the radio on most new vehicles.

2006 Saturn Relay Check Engine Light

PO455 is a large evaporative fuel leak. A bad fuel cap is ONE of the things that COULD be the problem. Fuel system cleaning only lightened your wallet. Reading your post is confusing. Did all this start AFTER the Valvoline Wallet Flushing? If so , they left something loose or disconnected. I would find a qualified repair shop to fix the problem, and if it has anything to do with what Valvoline did, make them pay the bill.

2007 Saturn Ion Check Engine Light Gas Cap Problem

Best to rent a scanner and check for other problems. If ok, the scanner will clear the light. If you bought a vented cap, the trouble will remain until a sealed cap is installed.
