yes thermostats wear out. make sure your cooling fans are not running at the low temp you have. you may have a bad temp sending unit. also you gauge send ing unit could be bad.
SOURCE: car steering wheel locked; car won't start
If this is a floor shifter or center console shifter there is actually a lock release next to the shifter. Look next to the shifter handle and you should see a small square plug in the console remove the plug and you will see a little white button in it this is the shifter release push it and you can move the shifter.
SOURCE: 1995 GMC suburban temp guage pegs high, but heater
Sounds like there may be an air pocket in the system.
Try 'burping' the system. If this still doesn't fix the problem, check the temperature of the heater core hoses (in and out) The inlet should be fairly cool, the other should be piping hot. If they're both cold; the heater core has an internal blockage.
Next, replace the thermostat with a winter (180-195 F) derivative.
Bleed the system accordingly, and keep me posted!
