The problem is going to be the resistor. It is located under the dash on the passengers side. Kind of behind the glove box. Here is a link to see what it looks like.

What does the wrench light mean when it comes on in the instrument panel of my 2006 f350 4x4 crew cab?

Your on board computer has detected a concern with the electronic throttle control. You need to have the codes pulled like when you have a check engine light on. If the light is staying on,the vehicle will run in a back up mode.

Chev. silverado 2500, 2004,

CHECK THE BLOWER RESISTOR AND THE CONNECTOR. THE TEND TO BURN TOGETHER.

THE RESISTOR IS BEHIND THE BLOWER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE TRUCK.

A DEALERSHIP USUALLY CARRIES BOTH PARTS AS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM.

Automatic temperature control system

I am not sure I understand your question. When the control head is turned off, the system goes to defrost mode (failsafe by design) and the blower should be off. If the blower is at high speed when the control is in off, you have a faulty blower speed control module (power mosfet is probably shorted).
