Question about 2002 Lincoln LS

1 Answer

2002 Lincoln LSE 3.9L 124,000 MI. stalls after a stop or hard braking.

I first noticed the problem a couple months ago and the problem has progressively gotten worse. I could be in a drive thru and the tach will jump up to 2000 rpm then drop and the car will stall. I have noticed that when I proceed from a stop the car will hesitate the lurch forward.

I also noticed that the car drifts backward on inclines meaning the transmition is not holding it ?

I took the car into the shop and they had it for 2 days and could not get the problem to repeat. The only issue that the tech found was a transmission fault in rpm sensor and he reset it and it did not repeat itself.

Hi.
This may be a "sticky injector"

This would cause overfuelling - and a sudden rise in RPM. The ECU will see this and compensate - by shutting the injectors down lower - , which then stalls the vehicle.

Worth a try runnig cleaner through them.

If you don't use injectors, then definately a sticking fuel metering device,

Fans are not coming on for the radiator so when your at a stop no air is flowing through the radiator. Check to make sure the fans are kicking on before the car starts to overheat.

What causes my 1994 lincoln continental to stall while driving, steering locks up and brakes are hard to stop.

on any vehicle with power/power assisted steering and brakes the power assist is created by vacuum that the running motor generates on the intake manifold so hard brakes and steering are normal and dangerous when motor stalls. Now the question is : why does your vehicle stall? I need more information to help you on this. Check air/ fuel filters and for pressure on fuel rail first, then we go from there...

if you had brakes and rotors 6 months ago,did you do just front or just rear?
if you did front and squeal is in front, the new pads got hot and it glazed them, but the rotors are you pulsating pedal, are you sure they did rotors and pads?
there is no way this should be happening in 6 months.

The gear shift on my 1998 Lincoln Navigator is difficult to move out of park. It started about a month ago, when I tried to back out of my parking spot at home. Tonight, the vehicle died on me at a stop...

It can be either the shift cable or the Automatic parking brake release.
With your vehicle stalling it sounds like the parking brake release is leaking vacuum and causing stalling.

You can check with Autozone or Oreillys to see if there is an aftermarket part for that. Then locate the Auot release on your vehicle and when you take it off, slide the parts within the fixture to verify sticking.
