You can't replace alt without removing belt. You CAN take it to an Autozone, Advance, etc parts store and they can check it for FREE in your car

What does it mean when the battery symbol in my instrument panel lights up in my 2002 nissan altima

Either your battery is starting to go bad or it could be the alternator that is not putting out any voltage, or even a loose or corroded battery cable. What I can suggest is if there is a Walmart that has an auto tire and battery department then just take it there. They can test your battery as well as your alternator for free.

Brake light and battery light stay on on dash it is a 2002 nissan maxima

This would not affect the brake light. Now that you have a new battery, unhook both cables for 15 minutes, then rehook to reset computer. See if this solves the problem with the lights, at least the brake light. If it does, then it can be the alternator unless both lights go out. Then it was a problem at the computer having to be reset.

Charging & Brake lights flash, belt is intact (1997 Altima)

Suggest replacing alternator if charging is an issue, also the battery as a bad cell will normally kill the regulator due to non stop charging condition.

if your idler pulley is squealing get it replaced before that belt locks up, cuts loose and hurts stuff under your hood. At 2000-4000 rpm that belt will grab and wrap up alot of things very quickly if it wants.

The battery light and brake light and engine noise on my 2003 Nissan Altima.

Hello and thank you for using FixYa!

When those 2 lights come on, it's normally a alternator not charging properly. I would have it checked to verify.

Thanks Jay!

05 Altima, brake light and battery light on

You may need an alternator.Once battery voltage goes low enough the brake warning light can come on warning you the battery voltage is too low for the brake system to work properly. The bat light is warning you there is a problem with the charging circuit, most likely the alternator.

Brake and battery lights stay on

when both lights stay on with the car running it usually indicates an alternator that is not charging at an acceptable voltage level. check the battery voltage with the car running, if it is under 13.5V you should replace your alternator.
