Hi

one of 3 faults

1 MAF sensor also Known as air mass sensor
2 EGR valve, this is most common with the 4000 rev limit and a top speed of say 50 mph
3 air leaks or tears in air pipes or poor seals.

I would be tempted to clean both the EGR and MAF sensor before spending any money though, these parts ofetn work much lonegr when clean

Regards

Dan

2003 Mazda Tribute sputters at 4000 rpm while in park and neutral, Is this normal? I heard that the rev limiter kicks off at this rpm

You would have to do some research to answer that
You could have an rpm limiter & should
The question is-- why would you bring the rpm up
to more than 3000 in park,no test requires more than that
You will some day ruin a motor doing so,unless it is a race car

Could be fuel or ignition.
If the coil or ignition is weak, you may not have enough power to fire the plugs under load.
And if the fuel pressure is low, you may not have enough fuel under load.

96 Taurus. Won't rev over 4000 revs even in park or neutral

That is the rev limiter kicking in at idle.

Rpm does not reach 4000 rpm

Neutral or Drive N rev limiter to prevent engine damage from no load over acceleration. D: many things could be at fault. Has your fuel filter been changed in the last 30,000miles. What about a tune up? Is your CEL(Check Engine Light) on? If so have a parts store check for codes, some do it for free. Then get back to us and we can go from there.

2.4l has gas in oil and no power

check the fuel pressure regulator and the map sensor vacuum hoses. as for the not revving above 4000 rpm is what the computer limits the engine to with no load on it, like in park or neutral.

My 2003 neon stalls as soon as I take my foot off of the accelerator pedal or slow down it just dies....i put it in neutral and rev the engine and it revs to 4000 rpm and just breaks up....i just changed...

you may have a dirty fuel filter or the throttle plate may need cleaning.the throttle plate is the valve that moves in the intake when you move the gas pedal.if they get too dirty they cause a restriction in the intake and cause the car to stall.it also could be a tps sensor problem but this should put the check engine light on but not always.the breaking up of the motor when you rev it to 4000 rpm`s is the rev limiter in the computer that shuts down the firing of the plugs and injecotrs so you don`t cause damage to the motor when there is no load on it.

Hi Tom your vehicle is equipped with a Rev limiter it will not allow you to rev the engine above 4000 with the trans in park; as for the first problem you may have one of two things, one of the spark plugs or spark plug wires is bad or you have a flat spot on the throttle positioning sensor in which case have be replaced. Good luck?

Idles rough and acts like its going to die then revs up....acts like its not getting gas sometimes....when under pressure the air blows out of the defrost instead of the panel

you have a vacuum problem, I would have the intake gasket checked or you can spray carb/choke cleaner around the intake where it meets the heads and if the rpm of the motor reacts then you have a leak, my explorer was the same way, idle raised and lowered, idled rough, stalled, and my vents acting up. new intake gaskets a month ago and wham runs great. My yukon i did 2 days ago as it had the same actions and yep it runs great now. I'm sure its your intake.
