Hi

Most likely cause is the air mass meter also known on modern cars as the MAF sensor. check for any air leaks in the pipes also. any rips in the air pipes will choke the engine.

Hope this helps

Dan

Looking for information on a 1989 760 Volvo ignition modular, also the wiring diagram? My Volvo starts when it wants to and quits the same way. Have checked distributor, fuel system, etc but to no avail....

hi-
my 1989 760 turbo wagon died with no warning wednesday morning. it was running fine, i stopped at the post office for 5 minutes, and it wouldnt start. it still hasnt.
i found good information at this page:
http://www.k-jet.org/documents/greenbooks/700-series/
scroll down and there is a link to the greenbook ignition manual (incomplete, buy mostly there) http://www.k-jet.org/files/greenbooks/700/TP31397-1_700_ignition_incomplete.pdf , with excellent troubleshooting instructions if you're handy with electrical testers. there is also a link to the 760 wiring diagram manual http://www.k-jet.org/files/greenbooks/700/TP31075-1_760_wiring_diagrams.pdf. good luck!

My 1989 Volvo 760 GLE will crank but wont start at all. I replace the Igniotion coil and RPM sensor but still will not start. Where else will I look for cause I want to keep this car i had for over 20...

It could be a bad solder connection on the fuel pump relay. It is a green relay. The relays are mounted behind the front console. You will have to take off the console panel on the passenger side. You then will see all the relays and can pick out the green one. I think they cost about $20. online. You could get one from a junk yard but you might end up having the same problem.

Location of relay panel on Volvo 89 760 Model

that is true for the 740, for the 760 turbo '89 the relays are on the kick panel next to the passenger's left foot. you have to undo 4 screws and the whole L shaped panel pops out. on mine the white relay box was held in place by and orange hand screw that you could undo w about an 8mm allen wrench. then it swings out. once out you have to bend the tabs outward on both sides of base of relay to be able to pull those suckers loose. I had to remove most of the relays to get at the big double that controls the head lights. i carefully pried off the cover and I found two busted solder joints inside the relay that i am going to attempt to resolder tonite. If not this big dual relay costs 125 US to replace. I wish I could find a 760 relay diagram, the 740 is a bit different.
