Hi.

If the auto tranny is shifting erratically and at the wrong time, or if you have similar problem with automatic transmission, then the first thing to do is a code scanning and eventually a transmission fluid replacement.

The OBDII code scanning may address the problem already (see here). If you get no codes, start checking from the TPS. The TPS is the throttle position sensor, located in the throttle body. TPS signal is used by TCM (transmission module) to determine when to shift. This is common cause for wrong shifting. The TPS is tested reading volts at its contacts while operating the pedal. If voltage has gaps or does not go up and down smoothly with pedal pressing, then the TPS is bad. Other transmission problems may be given by transmission include control solenoids failure (located inside valve body in transmission), TCM problems, brake safety switch, and gearbox internal troubles.

Regards.

Ginko.

1994 Buick LeSabre has clicking noise in steering column when reversing.

Could it be coming from the dash??? That car might be old enough to have a speedo cable. Another thought, I know some Caddys that had an automatic park brake release. You had to put it in gear for the Park brake to release. Hope that helps.

Getting auto trans. into park

Shift cable starts in the steering column and runs down to the shift lever on the tranny. The sleeve that the cable runs thru can break or come loose. It has to be attached and secured along its line or else it will just flex instead of pushing and pulling the shift lever underneath. After checking that, make sure the support bracket at the steering column end is tight. over years of moving that lever up and down, it loosens the bolts of the support. This makes the lever feel loose and usually throws the red gear marker off of the lettering. There is a thin thread in the column with a thumb screw or dial that turns to adjust the marker to line up on the letters or numbers. If that shift cable is not perfectly aligned , you could be putting a lot of strain on your transmission. The fluid passages are small, and if the are not lining up 100% in each gear, you will wear it out. You will see a steady decrease in acceleration and power. Good luck.

Shift indicator not working correctly

This is a common concern on explorer, shift indicator cable breaks.if you're the diy type this is a pretty easy repair. Remove steering column cover top and bottom, and instrument bezel.you'll see shifter indicator coming out of bottom of instrument cluster and cable wrapped around steering column, attached to the shifter.you'll have to remove 4 screws for cluster,7mm, tilt the bottom of the cluster and look where indicator is attached, usually 2 7 mm bolts or clips, remove and replace indicator...if the steering column was lowered without taking off indicator cable it would break cable, or could be band that wraps around column that's loose or broken..either way cheap fix..

I recently got a automatic 1999 Chevy Suburban 1500. Right away I had to get a new steering column. It has always been a little difficult to shift (pulling it down from park to reverse, drive etc). To

check the shift adjustment at the bottom of the steering column as it may have slipped or be slipping. Check the linkage on the side of the box

I Have a 1990 F150 and it wont shift (auto) on the steering column. I am in need of either a diagram so I can replace the steering shaft tube or any other ideas anyone else would have. It will start up...

some steering column shifters required the lever to be pulled back to the wheel before the shift could be made (a safety thing). Check for seized bushings or worn bushings that is preventing the movement

1993 bronco auto, shifter handle on the column is completely lose and will not engage transmission gears

The nylon bushings and plunger in the shift tube assembly is worn and needs to be replaced... I would replace the whole assy. because it's the best way to get ALL the slack out and they aren't that expensive...The shift tube and plunger work together. After you install the parts you can adjust to where your shift indicator needle is lined up with the letters and numbers on the dash. You have to drop the steering column to get to everything, remember to disconnect the little string that runs from the back of the shifter up to the needle indicator before you lower the column down to rest on the seat...if you don't it will break! I hope this helps...good luck with the Bronco.

My 1996 Ford Econoline van manual gear shift goes into reverse when in the park position. It will go into drive in the nuteural position.

More than likely the shift indicator is broken. It has a small retainer that is held to the steering column that breaks and throws the indicator out of alignment. In some instances (rare) the tube and guide that are on the top of the steering column break or become loose.

Can't find heater fan

The heater fan is located under the dash on the passenger side. In the 2001 Lumina you have to take out the 2 plugs holding the insulation in to remove the insulation. The heater fan is at the very front butting up against the firewall. Removing the front-most bolt is a real pain in the ****, so it might be easiest to remove that first and install it last.
