A battery draining overnight doesn't necessarily mean you have a short. Try this; jump start or charge battery, drive over to your local Autozone, Advance, etc.. autoparts store and have them do a FREE load test & charging test. They'll come out to your car, hook up their tester and test the systems while on the car. I have a sneaking suspicion that your battery is tired and just won't hold a charge.

What can cause a 2008 Buick Lucerne's battery to drain so much?

If you can't see any obvious reason, like lights on, radio, etc. you have some short circuit in electric system. Get PCM (car's computer) scanned to get a diagnosis and pinpoint location of the problem.

My battery keeps dying on my 2004 cadillac srx. changed all coils and sparkplugs.autozone check my alternator, starter and battery said it was good.

When does it die ? overnight , after a couple of days ? If it dies over night you have what is called a Parasitic drain or draw on the battery ! There is something on , a light , or a short , or one of the control modules doesn't power down . How to Test and Find Parasitic Battery Drain Key Off

96 breeze battery gos died over night

connect an amp meter in where the battery earth wire is and read the current draw with everything off. Low current indicates something like a glove box light or boot light and heavier current draws indicate something like a relay malfunction or a power wire just shorting out somewhere. Once you get an idea of the current draw take it to an accredited auto electrician and tell him of the result and he may have a good idea of where to start.

Something is draining the battery

There are a few things that I am sure you are aware of that do produce a draw as in stereo memory etc. How fast does a fully charged battery draw down? Are you aware of procedure of how to test for draw by pulling fuses?

Something is draining my battery on my 1998 Cadillac DeVille

I suspect parasitic draw. All vehicles draw some power from the batteries when the car is shut off. Certain accessories such as clocks, radios remote door openers and alarms always need power. The normal power used is called parasitic draw.

It is always a very low draw so it doesn't run the battery down. If you install accessories like shortwave radios or plug things like inverters and portable refrigerators into the accessory socket and operate them too long without the engine running you can drain your batteries to the point where the engine won't start. If there is an electrical short in the vehicle or a malfunctioning accessory it could be drawing much more than its normal load causing a drain on the batteries. If you leave your door open and the inside lights stay on all night you could drain the battery down till the car won't start.

Here's also a good resource for your car specifically on narrowing down the cause of the drain.

a short will blow a fuse what you have is something stating on most common is a bad power antenna but remove the neg cable and place a test light between the battery and the neg cable remove fuses till the light goes dim the removed fuse that allows the light to go dime is the draw on the battery also a bad diode in the alternator will drain it as well so unplug and unbolt that as well

Battery runs down over night and the battery is new. what is causing the drain on the battery

Classic question. Likely causes, check the DOME light switch in in the proper position. My wife had this problem for a week before she figured it out.
Make sure all of the lights are turning off after leaving the car. The car WILL use some power all the time. This can cause a dead battery on vehicles with older batteries. But, since you have already replaced the battery, we assume this is not the case.
I would go to the fuse panel and remove fuses one at a time an insert a current (ammeter) in series an look to find which circuit is using power. This can be a little difficult because you need to be sure the doors are shut, etc, so you don't have lights on. There will be a small draw on one or more circuits that power the keyless entry, etc. With a new battery, you are probably looking for something in the range of 0.5 amps or more. Anything less probably would not result in a dead battery overnight.
Oh, before doing any of this, verify your charging system is working should have 13.7 to 15.1 volts on the battery with the engine running.

Will not charge battery altenator is good

Check the ground cable at both ends for a good tight and clean connection. also check that the alternator is grounded. You don't say if the battery goes dead over night or how you think it is not charging but if it takes over night. You need to check for a draw on the battery. You can do this by making sure all doors etc. are closed and things are off. Then disconnect the negative cable from the battery and hook a test light between the battery and the cable end, if it lights you have a draw. Something is on and draining the battery. Then you have to find what is draining the battery. You can pull fuses one at a time to find the circuit and go from there to pinpoint the cause

Drainig battery

You have either a battery with a dead cell that must be replaced, or something is on and draining the battery. Check the under hood, trunk, glove box, brake, parking, and courtesy lights. Open the hood at night and remove the negative cable. When you touch it to the negative battery post if you see a fairly large spark, something is on or something is drawing power. If you see a very tiny spark that is normal as it is the radio & clock pulling power. Replace the battery.
