Question about Honda CR-V

2 Answers

The check engine light is on when i start the car. The car is idling at about 1500 RPM and once i place the vehicle into drive the check engine light starts flashing, I checked the oil which was changed three days ago and it looked very low so i placed two quarts of oil in the vehicle...The car was sitten outside which it is not used to and was very low on gas, i filled up the car and still seemed to be having issues. Once the car is in gear it seems better once it is at higher RPMs, I am scared that i am going to do damage to the vehicle by driving it yet i live out of town and will hafta get the vehicle into the city one way or another. Please HELP!

Older hondas are known for bad coolant temperature sensors which usually cause a fluctuating idle.A vacuum leak can cause a high idle as well.very low fuel can cause a check engine light, but will go out after 30 warm up cycles.check all your vacuum hoses under the hood and look for cracked or broken lines. The coolant temp sensor is underneath the distributor cap,and i have seen the wires get brittle and breakThere are 2 sensors. The smaller one with a single wire is for the temperature gauge, the sensor with 2 wires is for the computer.

How is it at idle? A fast idle might be the result of a vacuum leak. Is there a check engine light with a code? Did you clean the mass air flow sensor?

2005 chrysler town and country when i start the van it shaking vibration hard in park and in reverse it and in neutral and in drive it perfect.it drives good on highways no shaking

try to increase the idle-rpm..
Example - at standstil condition when you start your van, have look at rpm... say 1000 or 1200 or 1500.. whatever it may be..
Keep idle-rpm a little bit higher, if previously it was 1200rpm then set it to 1500 rpm..
If the problem is solved then..
1) clean ur airfilter
2) check spark plug condition
good or bad... if bad then replace..
3) check fuel supply line, if it is damaged or folded

89 cutlass cierra crank but wont start when wet out unless gas pedal is pushed

This should be a drive by wire vehicle meaning it has a cable for the throttle body. First thing would be to see if any error codes can be pulled up (most parts stores will do that for free.) Drive by wire versus the late model that use electronic control for the idle have a IAC or idle air control which when first started controls the idle air intake--all air is run by it to idle the vehicle when cold--

Usual symptoms are rather high idle when cold engine or even idle and RPM jumping up and down and stalling when cold.

Another way if idle does drop when cold is tapping the gas--engine will still run until hot. Means not usually a fuel pump issue.

You could also have if the vehicle is fuel injected a dirty Mass air flow sensor, a throttle position sensor, etc.

These can be if the vehicle has them cleaned using a special zero residue spray cleaner.

First have it scanned to see what if any errors it shows--the computer.

Low rpm on start up, check engine light came on.

If you dont have a code reader go to Autozone and have them read them for you. it sounds as if you may have a defective sensor. It may be a simple cheep solution to try to clean your mass air flow sensor. You Can do this by taking some brake parts spray cleaner to clean it up. the brake parts cleaner dosent leave any residue so it wont harm the sensor. If you dont know where the sensor is located it is usually located just after the air filter box.

"unidentified" Fuel System issue - check engine light on

What you have is a vacuum leak in the evaporative emission line.
The solenoid valve or line is broken allowing un-metered air to enter the intake system and is causing the high idle.
Once the leak is fixed, the codes can be cleared and you should be OK barring any additional problems, but the vacuum leak needs to be fixed first.
Let me know.
