You will need to get the obd2 diagnostic codes read in order to determine what the issue is and what could be causing it.

Why my car rpm jumps

Many things cause rpms to fluxuate. I.e. dead miss due to faulty or failing spark plug or plug wires. Or any of the ignition components is the ck engine light on dash flashing when rpms "jump"? This will tell you wether or not the problem is a miss

Burning smell

Check the valve covers for small leaks, the oil will run down onto the exhaust manifold and this causes the burning smell. Oil leaks on this model and engine is a very common issue.

Flashing check engine light subaru forester

If there is a lot of ice then I would think that the coolant was iced up and the engine overheated as stated . The engine light is there to let you know that something drastic is about to happen to the engine and you should stop immediately , check the oil level and coolant level before driving any distance.

While I was driving, my car started to hesistate when I press the gas while going between 65 - 75 mph. It sounded like it was going to shift gears but did not. Later, after the car was off for about 3 hrs...

It sounds like your car has a misfire. When your cars computer sets a code for a mis fire the check engine light will flash then remain on steady. The smell is most likely a rich fuel mixture because of the misfire.

99 olds silhouette check engine light blinks.Engine is running rough and the smell of unburnt gas is coming from the exhaust. Also noticed a burning smell coming from between the engine and firewall.

the cat converter is overheating because the engine is misfiring, get it to a repair shop ASAP, I would tow it, but converter damage has already been done.

Most likely your throttle position sensor is faulty. You could have a vacuum leak as well. Most probable cause is a bad sensor. Is your check engine light on? Have you checked your engine codes? You can go to autozone.com and register for full free online repair manual.

Service engine light

the burning smell that wasn't rubber is probably the smell of your brakes overheating and melting. but, if you have the money and time, go out and buy an OBD2 code reader. it should read the engine service code from the engine computer in your car. this will tell you what is wrong.(you will probably have to look up the code it gives you on the internet). or, you can take it to a regular shop and have them check the code. but if you know the code, you won't have to pay for something they say you need but don't.

good luck!
