My mother has a problem that the door will only open from the inside. Is there an inherent problem with this model or is it more likely a linkage that has become disconnected. How does the interior latch connect with the exterior handle?
A small white plastic connector has broken at handle (outside) I discovered this tonight, removal of the handle does allow one to access the lift rod from the outside of the car via the hole left. The electric, and manual lock still works, and it will not open if locked! Good way to have fast access until replacement part can be found, I will update when that happens,

Check inside of door where wiring comes thru for broken wires ,ECU doesn't control windows or door locks. You didn't state what model vehicle you own. But opening and closing door on drivers side causes broken wires on numerous vehicles over the years, most makes and models. Split boot and check all wires inside for breakage.
I have a 2005 Kia Rio. The passenger door would not open (using inside or outside handles). Found out that one of the three bolts holding the door lock became loose just enough that the head of the screw rubbed against locking mechanism. Had to kick the door (from inside) open. It worked. Replaced screw and all is well.
My friend just had this problem and he reached in and pulled the inside door handle back as far as it would go, and then let it go, allowing it to 'snap' back. For some reason this fixed it. We have no idea why. By doing this on one door, both rear door locks freed up and the rear locks are now working. Before, both rear locks were stuck and you could not open the doors from the inside nor the outside. Not sure why it works, but maybe it will work for you!
There is a mother lock for all door and it is located to the driver side door. Maybe you need to replace it but if a electrician can do something about it to save money do so, but I highly recommend to replace the mother lock for hassel free.
