My 2000 lesabre has that problem. Not the hub, replaced axle noise seems to come from just inside where axle coes into transmission housing. Any suggestions please?

When starting the car a whining noise comes from under the hood and gets louder with acceleration

2002 buick century: whining engine noise only while driving. No sound while idleing. Overall performance is fine. Whining noise increases/decreases according to speed. Started doing this all of a sudden while driving approx 40 mph. Almost sounds like ill adjusted gears meshing together.

I had the same problem with my 2000 Buick LeSabre last year. Took it in and they determined the wheel bearing needed to be replaced. Costs about $300 per bearing, but definitely needs to be replaced as you'd be in serious trouble if the thing went out at highway speeds.

300 for these wheel bearings is about 200 too much. Although it is easily done in the driveway you must align the front end afterwards.

Whining noise progressively gets louder with speed

One wheel turning faster than the other is normal if both wheels are off the ground. If one wheel is dragging when the other wheel is on the ground, it could be brakes or a wheel hub bearing.
Usually if the noise happens on right turns, the left hub bearing is failing, and vice versa.

1999 ford explorer limited whining noise in front end

Whining noise is probably in one of the pulleys or belts. Probably the power steering. And the popping is probably CV axles.

1990 Buick LeSabre - front end groans when I turn the wheels left or right. Started about 3 wks ago, but it wasn't constant at first. Steering pump? Fluid? Belt? Hoses? Ball Bearings? Lube? ...

First of all check the power steering fluid, have someone turn the wheel and listen to see if the noise is comming from the p/s pump, if no noise it is likely comming from the strut bearings. Worse case it could be in the rack & pinion unit.

There is a steady humming sound from the front end when the vehicle is moving

sounds like a wheel bearing assembly,if the noise changes when the wheel is turned a little bit while driving then it is a bearing, hope this sheds a little light on it for you

1997 Buick LeSabre has squeak noise coming from right front.

More likely this is a wheel bearing or CV joint than suspension components.

One good indication is if, when your making a right turn or accelerating, there is a shudder or shaking in the steering wheel then its likely a wheel bearing.

Another good indicator can be found when you jack up the suspicious wheel. Put one hand on the top of the wheel and one on the bottom and pull back and forth. If the wheel makes a clunking noise and moves in either direction, then wheel bearing is shot.
