Check if cable from cabin is free. Easy way is to locate and disconnect cable from under car. Once done you can release brakes if the cable is the cause if not best to take to specialist. In emergency to use car tap calipers with hammer may help. Always take care when working under jacked up car

1995 grang jeep cherokee emergency brake wont release from back passenger side wheel smells like hot metal, should I drive it to my mechanic 10k away from my place and how do I release it?

I would'nt drive it like that. You might want to contact your local auto parts dealer, to find out how to disengage the emergency break first.Or if you have the chilton's manual it should tell you in there. Best of luck.

Where is the emergency brake located in a 1999 pontiac grand prix

it is either a pedel on the floor by your left leg or a long lever on the floor between the driver and passenger seat.

My rear passenger tire started smoking what could the problem be?

Are you sure it's the tire? It could be the brakes (not releasing) which could result in 'smoke'. The only way it could be the tire would be if it was rubbing on something, or you were spinning or locking up the tires. Feel the center of the wheel when you see the smoke, if it's very hot, it's probably the brakes not releasing.

Emergency brake stuck, pedal release broken

What happens is the brake cables rust inside the cable sheath and then they won't slide easily. There's no good fix for this other than replacement. It's not easy to even find where they are stuck. It might be possible to find the end of the cables at the back wheels and pull the cables back---to release the tension

2000 pontiac emergency brake stuck. how do i

Are you in a Northern Climate were road salt is used during winter? The emergency brake problems I have encountered tend to be due to rust and corrosion accumulating on the wires and metal pivot points that operate the brake via the emergency handle on the center console.

Get underneath the car (chock the wheels---ALL FOUR! with bricks or large chunks of wood---be sure the car is in PARK!) and find the wire that connects to the handle of the brake---follow it to the rear brakes, and you will see a split where it goes to the L and R sides via a sliding clasp of steel that looks like a C, and has wires running over the top, and to each rear brake.

At this point, grab the wire on one side of it and PULL HARD several times, slack between pulls. Do this for each side---that should release the assembly, and the shoes from holding the drum.

After you have done this, lubricate the pivot points and the wire connection to the brake handle with TRI-FLOW (NOT WD-40)or another teflon based lubricant.

Pontiac Grand Prix

the problem your having is that the brake didnt relase undeneath your car but it only happed on the one tire. the way you can fix it is go under the car and you will find a cable that goes to both of the wheels. the cable on thr right rear use a vise grip to grab it and slightly pull to release. once it has released spray the area where the cable goes into the brake housing with WD-40.

that should take care of your problem
