I'm not sure what the squeaking is, but the rotten egg smell is coming from the catalytic converter. It needs to be replaced. When you have the converter replaced, have the muffler shop install a universal type rather than OEM or original equipment. It will be a lot less expensive and works just as well. It could make the exhaust just a little louder, but not much. Tell the muffler shop that you wish to keep the old converter. It can be recycled for close to a $100 if not more. Don't tell the muffler shop that you want to keep it til after you get an estimate on the new one, if you know what I mean. The muffler shops make big money recycling old converters. They don't like it when customers keep them.

Joshua,
check to see if you have a loose belt, either the alternator belt, power steering belt or water pump belt,,, if loose - adjust to the proper tension.
also, check to make sure you do have power steering fluid in the power steering pump,, but since you said that the sound goes away then I would say that it is in fact a belt issue.

Chevys have an issue with the catalytic converter. They tend to smell like rotten eggs most of the time.
You can either ignore it or wait until you can no longer pass emissions tests and then replace it.

run fault codes as the lack of rotten eggs smell is an indication that the cat converter is not functioning.

What's your problemm?chevy colbalt smells like rotten eggs

The rotten egg smell usually occurs from time to time. It comes from the battery being charged by the alternator. However, if it smells continuously there is a problem. It's likely that your alternator is overcharging the battery. This needs to be looked at soon. The alternator will need to be replaced or repaired. Hope this helps.

I believe im having a problem with my fuel system i put new spark plugs and wires and rotor already but it still has high idle or no idle at all it wont start at times or just dies as im driving. and when...

the rotten egg smell is a catalytic convertor going bad. here are a few symtoms.--- you should notice a drop in power and also a higher running temperature, also at night you may notice a slight glow from this thing if its heating up,it will also loose power ,on any kind of a hill or small incline it may idle rough from time to time also, there are several warning signs of one going bad ,if your in doubt about it,you can have it checked, they can drill a hole in it and check the back pressure on it,this will tell you if its going bad, this is actually the best way to check it out. have a good day !!

Usually the rotten egg smell is a clogged CAT. Is the engine light on and if so did you retrieve any codes?

Your catalytic converter is plugged up,  If you check the exhaust output at the tailpipe you will find it restricted.

2001 chevy silverado engine ''sputters'' and is losing power-

Backpressure is the result of any obstruction in exhaust flow. Both the converter and muffler create a certain amount of backpressure by design. If the cat becomes plugged, exhaust cannot properly escape and can cause an extreme lack of power. (Engine can't draw in what it can't expell out the other end) Usually the rotten egg smell is also accompanied by a "wheezing" sound in the cat as well.
