Question about 2006 Audi Q7

1 Answer

Urgent: Run out of diesel

Hello.

I have an Audi Q7 3.0 TDI 08/2006 model. Unfortunately I ran out of diesel in a difficult area, and the car stopped smoothly on the road.

I went on foot and I brought first 2 liters of diesel, tried the engine but didn't start. Then I went and I brought another 8 litres thinking that eventualy the first quantity was not enough. Again nothing. The engine was trying to bring the diesel on but didn't start. Unfortunately I stayed out of battery and then I brought another car to load the batteries while trying to start the car. Again nothing.
I had to leave the car there as I am missing the manual of the engine(I have only the MMI manual with me). Can someone tell me where I have to go in the engine or what I have to do to make it start please?

The sure problem was that it was the missing diesel that stopped my car. Temperatures all ok and electronics all good. Just I need to load the batter but what else?

I really thank anybody giving me some help so that I can continue my business trip and I don't visit Audi for a week or so...

    Benimur hi again.

I passed all day in the car. We tried to load the batteries which was kind of exchausted. it seems it needed more time. We released a lot of air from the circuit. I tried the switch on before starting the engine and diesel was coming up. I tried to start the engine, the starter was turning but no result. This small filter that you told me back of the back left passenger was not existing. Any idea?

Any other step I can take? I think that the battery has to be properly filled and it takes more than 2 hours we tried loading.

Hi again,

This link might provide you with some of the images for the engine component locations. You would be interested with the fuel lines going into the Common Rail Injection System as they would be providing the inflow of diesel fuel to the high pressure pump for the injectors. Additionally, you might find this page an interesting read with illustrations.

My apologies that I can not email you directly due to certain restrictions.

Good luck again.

I understand and appreciate the additional info/update. Pls try to remove one of the Audi's battery terminals for about 10 minutes. Pls keep in mind that doing so would reset your car's computer and most probably activate the security protection of your car's stereo unit (you would need the code to reactivate the stereo).

Incidentally, when I mentioned "left" I was referring for passenger side of left hand drive vehicles. This would mean the right side of the car. Or alternately, just follow the fuel line from the tank. Though of course, there is really no need now since you were able to determine that there is fuel coming out (I presume on the injector's end).

    Cheers.

Is there a fuel pump reset on a 01 TDI jetta ? I ran out of diesel AMD now it won't start

When diesels run out of fuel they fill the lines with air. To get it to start you have to bleed the air out of the system starting at the fuel filter pump and any where else there is a bleed screw. IF you have or can get your hands on a owners manual or a work shop manual for your car then the process and location of bleeders will be explained.

Have you checked to see if it gets power to the glow plugs if equipped (diesel?).

I am just conjecturing because I don't have data on your vehicle, for models marketed in the U.S., anyway.

Ran out of diesel 1.9 TDi 74kw. have refuelled and cranked engine for 15mins and still it won't start. there is fuel from tank to filter, to pump and return flow.

This is very important for Audi 1.9 TDI engine: IT IS FORBIDDEN TO RUN WITHOUT DIESEL FUEL IN RESERVOIR !!!
This type of engine is equipped with pump-nozzle injectors which develop up to 2050 bar injection pressure !
Remove the fuel filter, fill up with diesel fuel and put in place. After that try to start the engine with accelerator pedal to the floor. Heed of electric starter motor temperature and battery status! After 40 - 50 sec. of start attempting wait for 1 - 2 minutes for battery and electric starter motor revival. After few starting attemptions the engine must start.

My Audi A4 2000 TDI year 2005 has run on two tanks of Bio fuel recently and it hasn't recovered... started stuttering. Fuel system has been flushed out, air flow mand air flow meter has been changed but...

Audi 1.9 TDI and 2.0 TDI engines with pump-nozzle injection system, (year 2005 included), don't have permission to run with Bio fuel !!!
First you must replace fuel filter, interflow a quality Diesel additive (for 60 liters Diesel fuel dosage) fill up tank with Diesel fuel and run at least 300 km on highway at 3000-3500 rpm in 4-th gear.
I recommend you Foerch Diesel Reiniger System additive! I use this additive from 3 years ago and is certified on Audi TDI engines!
