    There are no quick fixes.

    1. Immediately change the engine oil and the oil filter using only the Motorcraft brand oil filter. You MUST use the correct spec oil for the engine and do NOT use some dubious crappy aftermarket brand of oil filter just to save 3 dollars. Ensure the oil level in the engine is at the max level.

    2. Re - check for the low oil pressure condition with the engine fully warmed up.

    3. If the low oil pressure condition remains get the vehicle to a mechanic to run an independent check on the oil pressure at different engine RPM with another oil pressure gauge screwed into the engine's lubrication system. A separate gauge will check if there really is a low oil pressure issue with the engine. If there is not then you will probably have a faulty oil pressure sensor which the computer is reading as a low oil pressure problem and sending the engine into " limp mode."
(I assume you have checked that there are no obvious oil leaks that are causing a significant loss of oil pressure in the system.

You will destroy your engine if you continue to operate it with real low oil pressure condition so you need to act immediately. If there is a problem with the oil pick up in the sump or the oil pump or the oil pressure relief valve these will need to be rectified.

If you have low oil pressure your oil pump may be failing.

I changed out spark plug wires last week 1990 Ford f150 Lariat. This week it sounds like a hard knocking from engine after driving 10 to 20 miles. Is my timing off by just changing the spark plug wires?

Knock at low rpm and high rpm" It may be oil pump , After oil heats up it gets thinner and and less lubracated. I would change the oil and add some oil stabalizer, shouls help, if not probaly a rod.

5.0 liter 91 ford f150 xlt lariat engine is idling at 2000 rpm, how do i rev down and how hsrd is it to change the oil pump

ther biggest cause for this problem after making sure all throttle cables and cruise cables, and if equipt. kick down cables are sticking...is a leaking intake gasket usually the one between the upper and lower intake...check all vaccuum lines for leakes and the brake booster...as for the oil pump if its 4x4 it is quite the chore...5.0lt are famous for low oil pressure if they are high mileage from bearing wear..if your not experienced in big jobs take it to a pro...if you are going by your dash gauge put a mechanical gayge on it to verify the pressure...maybe its just a sender!

2004 ford f150 lariat triton 5.4 liter v8 idles low and wants to die at stop lights and dies in reverse. And when it dies the low oil pressure light comes on I just had the oil changed and it started doing...

OKAY, FIRST THING THE OIL LITGH WILL COME ON WHEN IT CUTS OFF . WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY ON THE OIL LIGTH COMES ON W/MORE LITGHS UNTIL YOU CRANK IT . SECOND WHEN THEY CHANGED THE BATTERY THE COMPUTER HAS TO RELEARN THE ENGINE WOULD UNHOOK BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE TO RESET IT ,THEN DRIVE IT FOR A COUPLE MILES NOT WHERE YOU HAVE TO STOP ALOT .

Hi my 2006 F150 king ranch has shut off twice where it locks up for the engine failsafe then says low oil pressure. after turning off then on, it goes away. Any thoughts? The truck is recently purchased...

Your pickup should have thrown a stored code if it has shut down. Get the code extrracted, and see if it indicates a sensor along with something else. I would advise you to install an after market gauge which operates independantly fron the existing oil pressure circuit to verify that it is a low oil pressure condition the next time it happens.Could be a faulty sensor, but it needs to be verified first.

Truck will not turn over

I have found that the main cable to the starter is either broken or corroded. Replace the end and it should be fine.
