Question about BMW 528

Open Question

Just got my 1985 bmw 528e engine rebuilt, but after installing the engine, it cranks over, but wont start. The coil is new and the wiring is fine, but I cant get spark through the coil wire. There is no spark at all. The sprak plug wires are also new. Any ideas? Somebody told me to replace the crank diagnostic sensor but im not sure.

SOURCE: 1997 GMC CRANKS NO START

Go to a library that has a set of the factory service manuals (not Chlton's or Haynes or Motor's). The FSM's will give you all the trouble hotting charts that the dealer techs use.

SOURCE: 1985 325e , cranks but will not start.

Here are two possible options, One you should check on the flywheel and make sure there is a tiny block of metal alongthe rim of it generally on the top but it does move, this is the Crank Sensor Pin and if it doesnt have that then theres no way its going to start, Second, you might need to replace the Speed reference sensor, Its the grey sensor on top of the block, because those combined with the crank pin wont let it start, another one you might want to check even though you say it cranks, is check the Ignition coil

If you have any questions email me, and I can try to help (Had these same problems with more.) The.Squall1@gmail.com

Where is the drain plug on a 1985 bmw 528e

Coolant drain is typically at the bottom of the radiator, on the engine side. Very few cars don't have one, in those cases, disconnect the bottom hose.

Wont start

is the your car engine cranking when you try to start, first check spark plugs ignition coils, remove one ignition coil and spark plug fix the spark plug in to the ignition coil then connect ignition coil to wiring and keep spark plug body touching on ground of engine head mettle parts, ask some one to crank engine then you can see is the plug sparking or not, do the same way to all the coils and plug otherwise you have to buy a ignition spark tester, is the all the coils and spark plugs are OK then check the fuel pump, it's sitting in under rear seat, before that do one thing disconnect oxygen (O2) sensor wiring and crank engine, the thing is if your oxygen sensor completely dead fuel pump will stop working, if engine start after disconnect O2 sensor, replace new O2 sensor, otherwise need to check fuel pump relay fuse and fuel pump. is this information helped you? please vote me and give a comment.

My son has a 1984 528E BMW Sedan. He last started it in May, was away until July. In July the car would not start. We have discovered ONLY ONE distributor wire point is sending Spark (Front to Back of...

How did you tell it was only sending spark to # 3 cylinder. Could be bad plug wires or very badly fouled plugs if indeed electrical, or could be an issue with the injectors or fuel system. If not sure. One quick way to test is get an inductive timing light to see if you have a spark pulse on each wire. Please give me more infor and I'll see how to help.

How to find fuel pump relay on 1985 bmw 318i

I have a 1985 bmw 528e 5 series. It won't start and we think it has something to do with the fuel injector. Is there a relay for that or a fuse that would stop that from working? We get gas to the injectors but none going past.

My 1985 BMW got locked and it wont stay on

if this is a 1985 model car, then its pretty old...

i think you are saying that you crank it,it starts, then it goes dead over and over again?

or are you saying that you think the security system has disabled your engine?i have a '85 535i and a '84 528e i've had a different problem with the 535i and have just been driving the 528e.my point being that i cant remember everything about the 535i but i can look and tell you where everything is if you dont know or cant find out.

have you tried holding your foot down on the accelerator while you were trying to crank it?this shouldnt have to be done if your engine is repaired and adjusted properly, but you are just trying to see if it will run.

i dont think the security system would disable the engine like that as you say "locked" which could either mean the security system locked out the engine or that someone told you your motor is "locked up" and that cant be if it runs at all...

if it stays running with your foot on the gas a little then you will need some adjustment or some parts.probably a visit to a bmw shop.i was able to get both the 528 and 535 engine running smoothly with a flat head screwdriver and an allen wrench as well as doing some basic maintenence like changing the plugs, wires, rotor, cap, and oil,air and fuel filters(there are two filters on the 5 series bmw)without taking an 85 model car to the shop and paying a bunch of money to get it fixed, but thats not for everyone.good luck.
