Overheating 1993 muctang cobra

My 5.0L 93 is overheathing from the time the engine is warming up. The temp. gauge never stops it only keeps climbing and the coolant starts to flow out of the resevoir after the engine is a little warm . i don't want to start and fix a part that doesn't need it.
THANKS,

Hi,

To my understanding of your concern, there would only be three (3) basic components you would need to check:
1. thermostat (least likely) might be stuck closed or partially closed and therefore restricts the flow of coolant;
2. radiator fan (most likely) it could be the fan relay powering the fan or even the silica oil of the fan clutch (if your version has one). The are some instances that the fan motor itself could be defective. You could try wiring the fan directly to the B+12 of the battery to determine if it will rotate; and/or
3. water pump (likely) coupled to an impeller provides the pumping action to circulate the coolant. Failed pumps/impellers could not push the coolant to flow at the proper volume and rate.

A worst case possibility is a warped/cracked cylinder head or a blown head gasket.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Need to know if i need to bleed the cooling system, after installing the radiator?

ADD COOLANT IN THE COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STOP DROPPING AND COOLANT LEVEL STAY AT THE FULL COLD MARK.PLACE COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG CAP BACK ON JUG.CRANK VECHICLE UNTIL ENGINE START WARMING UP. STOP ENGINE WAIT FOR A WHILE UNTIL COOLANT COOL DOWN TO KEEP FROM GETTING SCALDED. USE A LARGE RAG OVER THE OVERFLOW JUG CAP OPEN OVERFLOW JUG CAP A LITTLE AT A TIME REMOVE OVERJUG CAP CHECK COOLANT LEVEL ADD MORE. COOLANT IN THE OVERFLOW JUG.THEN START VECHICLE AGAIN.LET ENGINE IDLE UNTIL TOP RADIATOR GET HOT.THEN THERMOSTAT WILL BE OPEN.WHILE ENGINE IDLING WATCH THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE IN VECHICLE IF TEMPERATURE GAUGE START CLIMBING IN THE HOT ZONE.TURN OFF VECHICLE LET IT SET A WHILE THEN USE LARGE RAG REMOVE OVERFLOW JUG CAP.ADD MORE COOLANT, PLACE CAP BACK ON START VECHICLE AGAIN KEEP DOING THIS PROCEDURE UNTIL TEMPERATURE STOP CLIMBING HOT ZONE.AND WHEN COOLANT LEVEL STOP DROPPING IN THE COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG.AIR IS OUT THE SYSTEM, BUT KEEP COOLANT LEVEL IN THE COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG AT THE FULL COLD MARK.DONT OVERFILL.DONT LET COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG RUN DRY IF SO AIR WILL ENTER COOLANT SYSTEM BECAUSE COOLANT LEVEL WILL BE LOW ENGINE WILL START OVERHEATING.

Cant find the valve to let air pressure from my radiator for my water to flow right

FILL COOLANT SYSTEM UP BY POURING COOLANT IN THE EXPANSION TANK UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STOP DROPPING IN THE EXPANSION.WHEN YOU POUR COOLANT IN EXPANSION TANK AIR BLEED OFF THROUGH THE SMALL COOLANT LINES GOING TO EXPANSION TANK.WITH PRESSURE CAP OFF RADIATOR COOLANT LEVEL IN EXPANSION IS AT FULL COLD MARK.WHAT YOU TO DO CRANK ENGINE UP LET IDLE WARM UP UNTIL COOLANT DROPS IN EXPANSION TANK KEEP ADDING COOLANT UNTIL STOP DROPPING STAY AT FULL COLD MARK.WHEN COOLANT LEVEL START RISING IN EXPANSION TANK.PUT PRESSURE CAP BACK ON RADIATOR.WHILE ENGINE IDLING WATCH TEMPERATURE GAUGE.IF START CLIMBING TURN OFF ENGINE LET IT SIT FOR LITTLE WHILE TAKE A LARGE RAG OPEN RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP A LITTLE AT A TIME TO KEEP FROM GETTING SCALDING TO RELEASE AIR IN COOLANT SYSTEM.WHEN PRESSURE IS RELEASED OPEN PRESSURE CAP ADD MORE COOLANT IN THE EXPANSION TANK.CRANK ENGINE AGAIN LET IDLE WHEN TEMPERATURE GAUGE START CLIMBING. TURN OFF ENGINE WAIT FOR WHILE BEFORE OPEN RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.WHEN YOUR THERMOSTAT OPENS WHEN TOP RADIATOR HOSE IS HOT AND ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE STOP CLIMBING AND COOLANT LEVEL STOP DROPPING IN THE EXPANSION TANK.ALL AIR IS EXPELLED FROM COOLANT SYSTEM TO KEEP ENGINE FROM OVERHEATING.

Having issues with a 2000 chevy impala overheating have changed the radiator and the thermostat fans seem to be working ok but overheats at idle in stop and go traffic, after a certain amount of time it...

YOU NEED BLEED COOLANT SYSTEM.CHECK COOLANT LEVEL IN RADIATOR.ADD MORE DEXCOOL UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL IS CLOSE TO RADIATOR SPOUT.CRANK ENGINE LET IDLE UNTIL TOP RADIATOR HOSE GET HOT.WATCH TEMPERATURE GAUGE.IF TEMPERATURE GAUGE START RISING TO HOT ZONE.TURN OFF ENGINE.LET COOL DOWN.USE LARGE RAG SLOWLY OPEN RADIATOR CAP A LITTLE AT A TIME UNTIL ALL PRESSURE RELIEVED.REMOVE RADIATOR CAP.ADD MORE COOLANT.CRANK CAR AGAIN LET IDLE UNTIL TOP RADIATOR GET HOT.KEEP EYE ON TEMP.GAUGE ALSO.WHEN TEMP.GAUGE STOP CLIMBING.YOUR COOLANT SYSTEM BLED.WHEN DONE LET CAR SET A WHILE CHECK COOLANT LEVEL.ALSO FIRST THING IN THE MORNING CHECK COOLANT LEVEL AGAIN.AND BESURE ADD COOLANT IN THE OVERFLOW JUG TO THE COLD MARK.DONT OVER FILL THE COOLANT RESERVOIR JUG.WORK SAFELY DONT GET SCALDED.

Temp. gauge not working after having a heater core replaced.

if the engine cooling system was not filled and air bleed out the system may have an air pocket and this keeps the gauge from reading correctly.
