Question about Chevrolet C1500

1 Answer

My '89 Chevy half ton pickup's 4x4 won't engage. I checked the fuse for the 4x4 and it was burnt out so I replaced it but it did not help. I am guessing it is the actuator. Any ideas? If so, how easy is it to replace?

A burnt fuse indicates a problem. Just changing fuses only runs up more costs as you can really damage a vehicle if this is the case. You can take it in to most places and they will not charge just to tell you what is wrong and then save up to get it repaired.

I have a 1993 chevy 1/2 ton pickup with 5.7 liter and I cant get the four wheel drive to work when i put it into four whell the rear wheels alternate when slipping as they should but nothing from the front...

First of all try checking your fuse box and make sure the 4X4 fuse is still good. If the fuse is good, move the shift lever for the 4X4 on the floor into 4 high, then get a friend to watch underneath when you move the vehicle a little bit to see if the front driveshaft is turning. If the front shaft going to your differential is turning the problem is probably the electric actuator on the differential.

I would replace the 4 x 4 actuating switch located top rear of transfer case. The switch has a 2 wire harness hooked to it. The same thing happened to mine. Cost me $80.00 and 30 minutes.

4x4 front axle wont disengage its electric

Re check your wiring it souds like you may have crossed some wires, or wired it where the switch is always on. The electrical componet you have is much different than the original vaccum type 4 wheel drive engagement.

Hope this helps
