No, it will bleed it self after a few seconds of crank time, verify you have fuel pressure, there is a shradder valve in the line going to the fuel injectors( known as the fuel manifold), depress it while someone cranks the engine and see if fuel comes out, is there gas in you tank? guages can be wrong, seen it a hundred times, car towed in, $100 later it turns out the guage is wrong and the car ran out of gas.

Hello there mike and thank you for choosing fixya
Normally in situations like these you will want to do first is pretty much what you ahve done then i would make sure all of the primary and secondary filters are good and not clogged myself i would change them then prime the system and bleed the injectors 1 at a time and then bleed the cav lucas pump this pump is usually the most common issue that people have and they dont know how to properly prime it to get the air out of the system then they are stuck having to bleed and prime the entire fuel system which is a pain then i would have the fuel system pressure tested and checked for leak down ok
Hope this is verry help full for you
Best regards Michael

It may have run out of fuel when the filter was replaced, you may need to use some starting fluid for diesel to getting going and when it starts just rev engine for a few minutes to bleed any air out, also the fault may be related you would have to scan it to see what the fault is , i would start with these things first. hope this helps, good luck.

My car ran out of fuel. I filled it with a gallon. Now my car starts but cranks and stops after few seconds. Do I need to bleed air from the fuel lines? How?

No by you running the car completely out of gas and then putting 1 gallon back in tank, you stired up the residue in tank and the fuel filter is plugging up with all the residue. The best thing to do is remove the fuel filter and replace it with a new filter. Hope this will help you.

SANDERSON TELEPORTER, HOW DO I BLEED THE LUCAS FUEL PUMP ON A PERKINS ENGINE

Perkins is a hard engine to prime. Fill the fuel filter with clean diesel, there should be a hand pump on the left side(looking at the front of the vehicle) . There should be a bleed screw on top of the filter housing. Loosen the bleed srew and pump the hand pump untill you get a steady stream of fuel from it. Tighten the bleed screw. Loosen the injector bonnet nuts approximately 1 1/2 turns on all of the injectors. Turn the engine over until you see a steady stream of fuel from the the injector bonnets. Tighten the bonnet nuts, pump the handpump approx 10 times and start the engine. Give it half throttle until it stops stumbling and all of the air is worked out of the system.

Fuel system

Sounds like bad fuel pump. On the fuel pump there is a hose that goes from the pump up to the lines that feed your motor. That hose is about 4 inches long and is in the tank itself. I have had alot of those come through. You could replace the whole pump, but if that hose is busted, replacing that will be enough to fix it.
