Hi!!
Your transmission is in Limp Mode, if this happened after spraying water on the tranny, you need to check all the electrical connectors and sensors on the transmission, use compressed air to dry them up.
If Limp Mode continues, have the stored codes read at AutoZone or similar auto parts store, this is a FREE service for their customers. If you don't want to drive the vehicle, you can borrow an OBDII scanner from them.
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

Landcruiser amazon 2000 diesel 4.2 was driving today and all of a sudden the vehicle was in D for drive and was showing first gear on the dash, and wouldnt drive over 20mph and wouldn't change

the tcm. (trans control module) has detected a fault in the transmission. it won't change because its in limp home mode.
the vss sensor may have failed. let the dealer or transmission shop run a scan tool on it.

2004 f150 transmission fault light

Sounds like the transmission got overheated. I would not worry if shutting it off and restarting got rid of the fault.

Enjoy your vacation.

F150 SUPERCREW 4X4 5.4L Got stuck in the snow and

sounds like transmission damaged. if forward gears are operational, suspect transmission failure. If nothing working ( either in 2 or 4 wheel drive) suspect transmission or transfer case.
