1100 reasons. Thats why you will need the computer scanned for DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), then with the code, that will direct you in the area of what the problem is. Buy a scanner from a parts store, then you can at least read the codes and look over basic parameters.

That is the ODB11 Code Reader Port. When your engine malfunction light comes on, you attach a code reader to that socket and the machine give a P Code. That code tells the problem as stated from the ECM (engine control module.

How to test for dead short

Use a volt meter. set your meter to ohms. put one lead on the wire being tested and a ground point (something metal - frame, engine). If you get a reading of .08 or lower you are good. If higher more than likely problem.

Engine will not stay idling

Dirty throttle plates and idle speed control motor can cause stalling without setting check engine light. If your check engine light is on you will have to get the code out and continue from there. Vacuum leaks will also cause engine to stall but usley set check engine light.

I have a 2008 sububrban that will not start and two codes p023f and p069e. The truck has the 6.0l engine, where do I start

It's either the fuel pump or the fuel pressure control module.
I have the same condition on an 08 suburban 1500.
I am going to replace both. The fuel pressure control module needs to be reprogrammed at the dealer after install from what I have read.
I'll let you know the outcome.

My 08 Suburban only has 32000 miles and the check engine symbol is lit up on the dashboard. What do you think is causing this to happen? What can I do to fix it?

{: ) There are a lot of reasons. The best way to have an idea of the possible cause is to have it checked by a scan tool. You can try to turn off the engine, remove key, open then close driver door, for 1 minute to reset the module. Then try to start the engine again.
However, if the trouble code is current, the engine light will just keep on coming back.

1999 Suburban, 5.7L loss of power then, it seems to run fine then loses power again. Now if you try to give throttle it knocks and pings and wants to die. Light throttle will make it go a little. I just...

Replace spark plug wires and plugs. Sometimes old wires will arc to the engine block, causing missfire. Check the wires at night with lights off and engine running, if they're bad, you'll defenitely see them arcing to the engine. if they are...replace.

When it rains my 1999 gmc doesn't start.

Usually a telltale of ignition problems. Usually the spark plug wires insulation is gone bad and humidity causes the spark to jump before the plug and thus, prevents the plug from firing. If the wires are OK, then probably the ignition coil's casing is cracked or open somewhere. If the coil(s) is fine (on some engines there is more than one ignition coil), also check the distributor for cracks on its body or cap, and open it up to check the condition of the water seals inside the distributor unit. Should be one of the 3 problems mentionned above, if not, get it checked by the dealer cause it will be some weird problem with the onboard computer or some of the sensors on the engine.
