The pcm has a power down time of 1hr - 3hrs after you turn off the ignition . take off positive cable from battery and connect with alligator clip . second turn amp meter to 10a dc and connect as well. wait for pcm to power down and then disconnect alligator clip and wait for power drop. if no drop then pull fuses. if nothing still then it will be a sub system . disconnect starter first then altenator. the rest will need to be done in a shop

If you disconnect the positive terminal from the battery and do a continuity test between that cable and the Negative cable you are going to find continuity. You have a grounded Positive cable or wire somewhere. either the insulation has worn through or a wire has been damaged. If you have added an Alarm or Stereo amplifier check those first as they are the likely candidates.

Something is draining the battery in my 2006 expedition king ranch

You can hook a volt meter that measures amps in series at the battery. after 1 hour the draw should be no more then .050 amps. If it is ...you can pull individual fuses to isolate the circuit that the draw is on.

Can't find alternator fuse

IF you are having issues with the battery dieing while the car is sitting, you need to check for parasitic drain. This is done with a meter that can measure at least 10 amps. You unhook the battery and put the meter between the battery and the cable. Then measure how much it pulls when the car is off. IF it is pulling less than .1 amp you should be ok. IF it is pulling more then you start taking out fuses from the fuse block till you find out what it is.

Battery drains while sitting

Hi Anonymous, perform the following tests:
1. Fill acid type batteries to proper levels.
2. Charge battery overnight at 1-2 amps you need 12.5 volts or better after charging.
3. Hook up battery positive cable, then with your multimeter on the milliamp scale connect one lead to the negative battery post and the other lead to the ground cable. Meter should read 3 milliamps or less, 10 milliamps with a radio, 15 milliamps with radio and CB. If your meter reads higher you need to isolate the circuit by pulling fuses and circuit breakers one at a time and observe meter for drop in aprerage then get out your test light and track down the short in that circuit.
3. Make sure all connections are clean and tight especially the negative cable at "BOTH" ends.
4. Hook up volt meter to battery and start engine, if meter falls below 9.5 v while cranking replace battery.
5. With engine running at 3600 RPM battery should read 14.3-14.7 volts if not continue tests.
6. Unplug voltage regulator from alternator at crankcase by front of primary cover.
7. To test voltage regulator go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8EjV0IjW9Q
8. With ohm meter, one lead grounded, touch alternator pin meter should read infinity, if not replace stator.
9. With ohm meter, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read 0.1 to 0.2 ohms on 1989 and later models. 0.2 to 0.4 ohms 1988 and earlier models, if not replace stator.
10. With volt meter set on AC scale, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read
16 to 20 volts AC for every 1000 RPM'S 1989 and later and 19 to 26 volts AC for every 1000 RPMS. If not replace rotor.

Start pulling fuses, one at a time, with an AMP meter in series with a battery cable. When you find anything over a few Mili Amps still on,you found the item, assuming every system has timed out. Some may take 15 min to do so. 40 Mili Amp will always be there, to power memory, clock, etc.

Check the battery for charge and alternator for power (free at Autozone) It might be deposited/rusted contacts on alternator and battery to reduce the electric current to battery from altrnator so battery just draining out. Also if it is very cold overnight (less than 0 F) battery lost the cranking power.
Please kindly let me know if the information provided was usefull for you or you need more info
Good Luck
