Check your gas cap it might be loose. I would suggest to remove it & then reinstall it with at-least 8 clicks when closing it.,

Check Engine light

No it is not OK to ignore the engine light. IT is there to advise that the sensors have indicated to the CPU that imminent engine/ gear box damage will occur unless the problem is rectified. It is not just another light on the dash to be ignored . Check the oil and coolant levels and the transmission oil level. Check that the coolant temperature is in the right area. Then go to auto zone and have the codes read. It is possible that the sensor that caused the light is a minor player and you could drive it but I recommend very strongly that you check it out first as it may save heaps of dollars.

A light come on with a box with arrow pointing down looks like waves what does it mean

This indicates a low level of coolant in the coolant bottle/resevoir..... this symbol represents the radiator or coolant system liquid level.

Warning comes on to warn of coolant level too low.

When the engine is cold...remove the cap and check level. Add 50/50 antifreeze/water to level indicated on the side of the coolant bottle or tank.

Reservoir Bottles/tanks are usually transparent and you can see the coolant level through the plastic.

When coolant topped off to correct level, lamp will go out automaticly...no need for scanner or shop to turn it off. It will come on as a 'self check' when you turn on the ignition and if level is okay will go out when engine starts.

I am getting a problem with madza rx8 , 2004 model, the engine coolant light is coming on when i take the car on long distance journeys , meaning when the speed reaches above 90km, when i go under slower...

first thing you must do is check the coolant level in the expansion tank if its low to the level of the sensor it will cause this if so simply add some coolant if not see if you can flush out the coolant expantion tank there might be something causing the sensor to send false signal.

Check gage light goes on intermitantly along with the temperature going to hot. At the same time the engine sounds like I turned the ac on. I also notice a loss of power. Any ideas???

The "check gage" when ever the engine coolant is high or the engine oil pressure is low. First step of diagnosis, check the coolant level and your oil level immediately and then go from there. Hopefully, this will help you to FixYa problem!
