It is probably a bad alternator. The alternator in my 2001 outback 3.0 went out completely last year and when I bought a replacement remanufactured one both of these lights would come on periodically. I went back to Pep Boys several times until they finally exchanged it with a new one and the problem went away. I never broke down or had the car not start while this was happening though. I would recommend paying the $400+ dollars for the subaru original alternator over the $125 Remanufactured though. It could save you much more in the long run as I think the bad alternator has had other ill effects on my car's electrical system.

If check hybrid system indicate

It could have something to do with the regenerative power system.

When you apply the brake in hybrids, it redirects energy from the braking system back into the charging system.

It could have a battery issue.
or
The transitional system from the electric to combustion drive could have some intermittency.
But, with hybrids, you really need to have it checked out. If there is a battery problem, it could cause a lot of damage.

Sorry I could give a more solid answer.
I'd need to know more symptoms of the car while driving.

SIDE BRAKE AND BATTERY LIGHT INDICATORS COMES ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING,CHECK BRAKE AND BATTERY FLUIDS AND THEY ARE W/IN HI LEVEL.

The battery light indicates the charging system has a problem not a defective battery. as for the brake light that is unrelated and may be due to low brake fluid in the master cylinder. Have the Alternator tested to see if the output is within specs

Hi I have a warning light that is showing on my dashboard. it is a retangle box with 3 squiggly lines going up on top of the box. can you tell me what it is? it is a us wagon accord. And the words brake...

Hi,
This warning lamp is an indicator to show that your exhaust temperature is getting hot, but if it is staying on even when the engine is cold then you have a faulty sensor which will need to be replaced. The brake lamp light is telling you there is a blown light bulb in one of your brake lights, so get someone to stand on the brake pedal with the ignition on and check that they are all working correctly.
Let me know if you need more information.
Thanks

Hi. On a 2002 Subaru outback. Can someone tell me what would cause the indicator lights for both the brakes and battery to come on and the power steering seems to be out. there was a slight burning smell...

I'll give it a shot. This is my theory on what has happened..
It sounds as though one of the belts, (actually I think it's just one large one) has broken. The belt would have been attached to the alternator and the power steering, those could go out at the same time. The smell would be the burning rubber of the belt. It is possible that the broken piece of belt flapping around could have damaged a component in the brake system. He will have more problems if he keeps driving. I would have the car towed to a garage. I would also advise that he get a recommendation from one of the locals in a restaurant as to who an honest mechanic in the area so that he is not taken unfair advantage of.
I hope I've helped.
Best Regards,
Mark

hi from uk the brake indicator warning light you mention has two functions it indicates thet the h/brake is either on or not fully off ? and is also an indication of the brake fluid level is low this may be either your car has a brake fluid leak ? somewhere or more than likely considering age of car the brake pads/shoes are worn low resulting in the displacement of fluid from reservoir to take up wear of pads operated by calipers/cylinders ? also if pads are low ?thenyour car may have brakepads worn very low indicators on the actual pads these are wires fitted on pads this too is a most probable cause of indicator illuminating ? SO asap check the above i have mentioned b4 you continue driving for any distance

The ABS,Brake Light,Battery light go on and off sporadically while driving.Does this indicate an Alternator failure or a sensor/computer problem?

yes it's most likely a alternator problem, usually the internal diode bridge breaks causing all lights you mentioned to come on,if this happens at a idle open the hood and remove green connector on alt.if lights go out you've found the problem

That is the brake light, check your brake fluid level, the light cam on in mine, I filled the brake fluid container and pumped the brake pedal and set/released the emergency brake a few times, the light went off.

Warning lights stay on

Hi,

Brake light warning indicates possible low brake fluid in the reservoir;

Charge warning light indicates battery not charging which can be caused by defective alternator/regulator, slipping belt, corroded fusible link from alternator to battery B+ terminal.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
