Question about 1999 Oldsmobile Alero

1 Answer

The alero will start but will not stay running. When I stared working on it, it would not start, I sprayed quick start in the breather and finally got it started. I let it sit for about fifteen minutes and tried it again it would start but still wouldn't stay running, put in a new fuel filter, gas line anti-freeze, and injection cleaner and tried again, still the same, would start but wouldn't stay going,... next step fuel pump? you think?

Our 1994 Dodge Dakota won't start. Cranks over. Fuel injected.

Quick find is to determine whether the engine runs with an external fuel supply.

Starting fluid is the easiest to use. Spray a small shot (one second spray) into the breather while cranking. If the engine fires up then dies, you know the spark and timing is not the problem and the fuel delivery system is. If any backfiring occurs, there is a timing problem.

Start with this and post with the results.

2003 alero, won't start in the morning, unless i spray quick start into the intake, then it will start,, there is fuel pressure and good spark, when i get it running,, it will start up all day long,,,, but...

Next time it happens, turn the key to the "on" position. See if you can hear the fuel pump engaging, sending fuel up to the motor. If not, you have a fuel pump issue. It doesn't seem often this happens, but when a vehicle is started, the fuel pump feeds gas to the engine. After the engine is started, it's more of a pressure thing, letting the fuel just flow. It may not be getting that extra push, when the pump is cold.

I hope this helps, let me know if I can be of any more assistance! :)

My 2003 Alero, won't start in the morning,, its like its not getting fuel when trying to start it,, it crank fine, but won't turn over,, when I spray some quick start in the intake , it will start,,, and...

Its faulty fuel pump and clogged fuel filter. In your vehicle the fuel pressure is low,due to this faulty fuel pump and clogged fuel filter,so its not starting. But it starts when you spray liquid in intake. The liquid directly goes to engine so vehicle starts.Replace the fuel pump and filter. This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

My 2004 Cav, was revving up and down at an idle position in all gears

idle air control motor problem. First check for visible vacuum leaks a water gun sprayed in areas that would have vacuum on it would be good and safe to use while running of course. No.2 which is probably the problem. With the key off take breather off and spray throttle body cleaner directly into intake for a few seconds put breather back on but dont tighten all the way slide the straw piece in between breather and throttle and try find away to spray it in the throttle body while running vehicle may take 2 people one to start it and you to spray and hold throttle down some

89 ranger i was driving than it just stalled. i have spark, i have fuel but no fire. but it wont start, if i put starting fluid in the intake it will run for a second then stall.

If you can keep spraying staring fluid and it stays running then the fuel pump is no pumping. only with a pressure gauge can you test it
