Question about Chevrolet Venture

1 Answer

Water leaks into passenger cabin when it rain or van is washed on passenger side. This is where the wiring runs and is shorting the locks. Any ideas where the leak may be from. I checked the cabin filters and they are dry, also the drains at the wheel wells are clear. It's a 1997 Venture.

Couple of spots to check - check rubber seal around door(s), check seal around windshield, and if equipped with sunroof, check the drain tubes (they get plugged and back up into cabin) An easy way to check for leaks - use compressed air around suspect points - have someone inside listening

Leaking water

At the base of the windscreen there is a gutter (Phelumn chamber)that drains the water out and down past the front wheels in side the mudguards. This gutter blocks up with dirt/ leaves /insects and will rust out and allow water into the cabin area especially if you are in an area that used salt in winter on the roads

I have a 2003 Impala. It hasnt rained for a few weeks and a leak has sprung by the glove box near the passenger side. I looked online and alot of sites said it might be the window not sealed correctly but...

There is a drain tube that clogs up. It is on the firewall under the hood on the passenger side. You have to access it from under the car. Use a stiff wire and clean it out. Sometimes you can clean it with a water hose and sprayer. Just don't put a lot of water in it. Spray a little, let it drain, Do this till you don't see any mold coming out. If it clears out and you still have water issues. Replace the heater core.

I have a 2006 Chrysler Town & Country Van. Whenever I get in the van the front driver and passenger side floors are wet. What can it be that is causing this?

This is common if you have a worn or bad seal and have had a lot of wet weather. The second most common cause would be water accumulation in your Air Box for your A/C and heater cores. If you have been running your A/C you may have water build up from the A/C coil leaking into the cabin if the drain is blocked. This could also be caused by a leaking Heater Core, again if that drain is blocked or you have the smell of Anti-Freeze in the cabin area. Start by checking the drain for the Air Box. This is located in the Firewall and appears to be a piece of pipe that is pointed toward the ground and crimped on the end. Use a small wire to clear any blockages or compressed Air to ensure it is draining properly. If you have a lot of rain in your area check the seals on your doors and windows.

I have a 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo SS. Everytime it rains I get standing water on the passenger side floor. I have changed the cabin air filter and it still is happening. Getting worse with every rain

Hi, very likely you have a leak from the wind shield and these can be proven or disproved by running tap water on the passenger side of the windshield. If the windshield is leaking a technician should be able to reseal the strip around the windshield or replace the windshield if its broken. Thank you for using fixya!

Water leaking in the passenger side floor after a heavy rain.

Here' s trick to find water leaks into cabin area,.
Mix a quart of water with a tablespoon of Murphy's Oil Soap (won't harm finish on car) liquid, mixing gently just to mix but not foam.
Start car, and place blower fan on full setting. Close all windows and other openings to try to help increase positive air pressure inside cabin compartment
Get out of car with fan blowing (engine can be running but make sure you don't lock yourself out of car) and gently pour solution on suspected areas. If there's a leak opening, the air from cabin will cause bubbles indicated leak point.
Also raise hood and use solution on fire wall where there are seams and sealant applied. I've seen these be leaks soaking the driver's side floor mats.

If you find a leak, seal it with the best clear silicone caulk, generally about $7 a tube. Clean all areas to be sealed thoroughly of any dirt, oil, grease, or loose rusted metal.

Good Luck

2004 monte carlo leaking water into the interior

Have someone remove cowl or cover to access cabin air filter box area, and clean it out good. Build up of leaves & other debris has been known to cause leaks inside because of drainage plugged.

Pontiac Montana 2004 Leak

I turned on the fan inside and closed everything up, went outside and poured soapy water around everywhere. I found bubbles at the mirrors and and the top of the windshield. Also a "Tech" told me that under the door rubber at the driver and passenger sides there is a piece of tape that is supposed to cover two assembly holes on either side but doesn't, so I caulked it and solved the leak that comes out the map lights. I also found that there was a crack in the sealer along the firewall to passenger inside fender allowing water to collect int the wiring channel causing the dreaded "lock" problem, which I had fixed by the dealer but they didn't fix the leak. The dealers and "Jet-set Execs"are the reason GM is hurting as their vans are OK. The fix was spraying RV Roof\Gutter sealant from the front after removing the wiper cover and spraying waaay in. Now I need to fix the one on the front that comes in above the passengers left foot and makes a spiders haven behind the centre cowl. Jim
