Question about 1999 Jeep Cherokee

2 Answers

When I first start my Jeep, it acts like it dont want to run, It idles low, then normal, then back to low again as if it may shut off. Just when I think its going to shut off it starts running great and stays that away until the engine cools off again only to start this process all over again. What is going on is it crazy? LOL

When you push down the gas pedal problem is going down in that time trouble would be on O2 sensor or IAC valve check the mulfunction codes please if trouble is pending situation you would not see any code .in that time check IAC and O2 sensors.

As to the 1990 Jeep YJ I asked about, engine is running, starts and idles fine. When you try to accelerate, acts sluggish until engine starts to warm up, then runs normal. Have changed the temp sensor.

Have you done a complete tune up ? To include replacing the fuel filter ? Are you the original owner of this Jeep ? If no, may have worn engine cylinders, piston rings, or bad valves. Many things could cause this problem.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 auto idles good but will only move with it wide open or just barely any throttle

4.0L
what transmission, mines a 5 speed stick so?????
idles good, well that dont take much.
will only move, car moves?
with what wide open ,the throttle?
well just barely throttle is normal, why say that?

my guess is car has low power, or can not go fast in all gears.
is that it?
if yes, that is transmission slip or a weak engine,
transmission slip is easy RPM goes way high car dont move
weak engine acts like brakes stuck on , low RPM deep right foot.
post all symptoms and win, big time.

I have a 92 jeep wrangler with a 4.0L 6cyl and it starts up but it idles very low. then after a little bit it idles normal and then back to a low idle again.

I suggest check your alternator with the voltage regulator eqpt or ensure the timing marks with regards to the timing belt are perfectly match base to the original manufacture/production...have a nice day!!

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo approx 147000 miles. Recently notices oil pressures going up to 80psi periodically when driving. If I turned off the engine and restarted it would read normally. Within...

Very first thing you need to do is install a mechanical pressure gauge on there to verify what you see on your gauge. If the actual pressure is low, then it's time to start looking inside the engine. If not, then you need to trace out the electrical problem but will know the engine is safe.

Jeep not running right!

what i do when i see cars that act like that is check fuel pressurse when the problem is acting up also check the spark to see if it is present at the time of the no start also when the check engine light comes on set up with a shop to check forr codes when the light comes on dont shut it off until the scanner can rread the codes. also that veh is equiped with a auto shut down relay system what is does is if a crank shatf sensor starts to go astray it can send the computer into shutdown mode also the o2 heaters can short out and that will send it into shut down mode also when it goes to shut down you will see it on a scan tool that the relay is shutting down also look at the grounds for the cruise control its usaully not the asd relay uaslly a system connected to it that shuts it down. hope this helps thunderboltz

Intermittant Idle problem

Try this:
Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
