Question about Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I've removed three bolts. Two from the front (one on each side) and one from the top (right). The right side of the alternator will come up, but the left side won't budge. Is there another bolt I'm missing?

I believe there are two bolts that go into the block underneath the bracket, where the compressor sits. And one behind the idler pulley.

How to replace alternator

Remove the negative battery cable from the battery.
2. Loosen the right front wheel lug nuts.
3. Jack up the automobile and place jack stands in appropriate positions. Leave room to access the alternator from underneath the car.
4. Complete removal of the right front wheel.
5. Remove the right front lower splash shield.
6. Release tension on the serpentine belt at the tensioner.
7. Slip the belt off of the tensioner and the alternator.
8. Attach an engine hoist at the front of the engine. This is a transverse mounted engine and the hoist will need to be attached near the engine mount located at the right front fender inner fender.
9. Remove the top portion of this mount.
10. Loosen the rear engine mount at the firewall. This mount is slotted and will permit you to pull the engine forward toward the right front corner of the engine compartment. This will give access to the alternator.
11. Remove the two bolts that attach the serpentine belt tensioner and remove the tensioner.
12. Remove the top alternator mounting bolt. Do this from the engine compartment side.
13. Remove the lower alternator mounting bolt. Do this from underneath the car.
14. Turn the rear of the alternator up to access and remove the electrical leads.
15. Remove the alternator from the engine compartment.
16. Install the new alternator in the REVERSE ORDER.

hope this helps if it does please give a thumbs up rateing thank you have nice day

Belt diagram 1997 toyota corolla? alternator belt replacement?

The 97 Corolla has three accessory belts. The alternator belt is the one you see when you look down on the passenger side standing near the front of the engine compartment. If fits over the alternator and the engine pulley. The belt beneath it is the a/c belt (if the car has a/c). It fits over the engine pulley and the a/c compressor. The power steering belt is toward the rear of the engine compartment, on the same side. It fits around the engine pulley and the power steering pump.

Replacing the alternator belt is not too difficult. Standing in front of the car and facing towards the rear, loosen the locking bolt under the right side of the alternator. Then loosen the alternator hinge bolt on top of the alternator. Now you are ready to loosen the alternator belt tensioner adjustment bolt, accessed under the alternator from the front. Turn the tensioner until the old belt is loose enough to remove, then turn it further so that the new belt will go on easily. Replace the belt and re-tension until you have about 1/4 in. to 1/8 in. of play in the belt, tighten the lock bolt and the hinge bolt, and run the engine. If the belt squeals it means you need more tension, but do not overtension. Recheck it after a few days.

Are you ready I wasn't but I found out how and I did first vehicle in on a small ramp two 2x8 high because you'll have two drain your rad a bit now back on top vehicle in park disconnect battery cable , disconnect fan and horns , unbolt main support cross member between headlamps and remove, front hood lacht all have to be removed , remove upper rad hose from rad and thermastat housing so you can remove rad fans four bolts on each fan on drivers side one on top one on bottom two on side very difficult to get the one on bottom side , alternator tension pulley to release belt 14mm nut located center of the pulley has to be loosend off directly underneath the pulley is a 14mm bolt that will loosen or tighten the pulley loosen off the tension and remove the belt , undo bolts to alternator upper bracket has to be tacken off the cylinder head to give you more clearence bottom bolt and alternator have to angle out together replaceing alternator bottom bolt work the bolt partially in then place alternator in position when placing passenger side fan I found cutting a notch at the side bolt holes and setting bolts in acouple of threads then sliding the fan in place work quite well then tighten all the bolts was easier they charge three hours for this job it took me a little longer working in the rain

How to remove alternator

Park vehicle on level ground.
2. Remove battery from vehicle.
3. Remove air cleaner outlet hose, engine under cover ( right side ) and exhaust pipe # 2 .
4. Disconnect " B " terminal wire and coupler from the Alternator ( Generator ) .
5. Remove Alternator ( Generator ) belt.

6. Remove power steering pump. Do not disconnect hoses.
6. Remove Alternator ( Generator ) cover.
7. Remove Alternator ( Generator ) bracket mounting bolts.
8. Remove Alternator ( Generator ).

Power Steering pump has three bolts- 2 behind the pulley at 12 and 6 o'clock and one bolt on the back.

Once you get the power steering pump out of the way you can remove the last bolt on the alternator

Ok...I did not remove axle or disconnect hoses on power steering...I did unbolt power steering pump and moved off to side.

after that I disconnected sensor on throttle body and very carefully lifted alternator through the top where your air intake assembly would have been at, right next to A.C. refrigerant lines. It takes a minute , you HAVE TO BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE SENSOR!!

However it is a lot faster that taking off drive shaft and exhaust pipe!

If you go to AutoZone .com they have exploded diagrams of the parts you have to take off and they will show you bolt locations, the power steering pump bolt at 6 o'clock drove me crazy.

P.S. Get a ratcheting 12 mil wrench, it's a life and knuckle saver!!

Replace the alternator on a 97 isuzu rodeo

from Yahoo answers
The alternator is located on the passenger side of the motor at the bottom. There is a bracket attached to the motor and the alternator. You need not take the bracket off to remove the alternator. Two bolts hold the alternator to the bracket. One bolt is on the front top of the alternator and one bolt is located on the bottom front of the alternator. The bottom front bolt is attached to the tension adjustment for the alternator. Loosen the tension screw then remove the bolt going through the tension adjustment. After you loosen the top, front bolt, the alternator should be loose enough to move side to side. Remove the top, front bolt. Now you must disconnect the alternator from the power supply. Behind the alternator is a screw with a wire attached via nut. Remove this wire. Nextly there is a series of wires with a plug on the end. It is plugged into the side of the alternator. Uplug this item. You can also access both of these from the passenger side front tire well. Something to consider is that remanufactured alternators in Rodeo's as well as the Honda Passport (which has the same engine as the Rodeo) do not work and the problem(s) associated with a bad alternator,ie; not charging, no fan blower, battery light and brake light on, still exsist after replacing alternator with reman. Use a factory original alternator if possible. It will cost a little more than a reman but will most likely save you a lot of time and headache!

Hope this helps you out!!
