My daughter has a 2004 Kia Optima with 82k miles. I don't believe the drive belt has ever been replaced. Is it overdue?

I had my timing belt teeth break on me at 65k but it also broke my crank shaft sensor which will cost you about an extra 135.00 and you can only purchase at dealer. If the timing belt breaks on her she will be stranded. I would change it immediately. Oh by the way if they are changing the timing belt asked them to change the balance small belt that is inside where the timing belt area is at. There is a total of four belts that should be changed.

Are you talking about the accessory drive belt or the ignition timing belt?

In any event, if you're confident it is the original, then by all means replace it.

My point in asking about which belt has to do with difficulty of repair. You should be able to replace the accessory drive belt yourself, but you should consider having a mechanic do the ignition timing belt.

Good luck

Thanks! And to clarify, I'm talking about the timing belt. I'm not certain it is the original, but most likely. We bought the car for her used 3 years ago and at the time it had about 45k miles on it. I would expect at that point the belt would not have been replaced yet, and we know it hasn't been done since. I will recommend to her that she schedule to have it done soon.

Well the drive belt is not a big deal and it can be used until you start hearing whining or starts to get bad. But what you need to change now is your timing belt and Yes its overdue. usually 60.000 miles. Good luck

When should i replace the timing belt 2006 kia optima

Most manufacturers say 100,000 miles. It is something that should be done before then, I believe; because engine damage can result from the belt breaking, and it will leave you stranded. The timing belt is not something you should attempt, unless you have engine mechanical experience. If you don't, I recommend that you get it done at a shop as soon as you can afford it. $700 is a lot of money, but a possible engine replacement and a tow is a lot more!

My car stopped a dead stop

If you were driving and your Kia Optima just turned off. Your timimg belt broke and you will also need a crank shaft sensor too. There is a total of two belts inside the motor area (timing belt and balance belt) I would change out the ac and power steering belt as well so their is a total of four belts on the KIA 2004 OPTIMA.

How do you reset the check engine light on a 2004 kia optima code is p0350 coil or looseconnection

YOu need an OBDII can scanner. Your local autozone, advanced, or oreilly auto parts can get coes adn clear them. They will reappear within a 70 mile drive cycle. I would check all connections and think about replacing coil.

Chances are you have an issue with one of the following

1.) Spark plugs and or wires (Boots)
2.) Coil
3.) Crank Position sensor (or Blade)
4.) Timing belt may be heading for replacement.

How many miles are on the car?
I recommend having the timing belt replaced at or before the recommended intervals as with theses cars they almost go like clock work.
