Question about 2001 Ford Mustang
Replace the rack n pinion. Make sure you back flush the lines because there is a good possibility of metal working its way back too the pump. You will also need to do an alignment after the rack is replaced. If you are mechanically inclined you should be able to do this with little problems. Although getting the car above head is ideal. You might find a reputable place and have them give you a quote on replacement. If you do replace the rack yourself, make sure you set the toe about 1/8" in until you can get it into the shop for a thrust alignment. Good luck.
