Question about 1990 Honda Accord

1 Answer

My 1990 Honda Accord had a leak into the spark plug area, and also the tube between the pcv and recycled air intake was collapsed shut. I replaced the head gasket and tube. now i'm getting blow by (oil going thru the pcv and tube, INTO the air intake) AND it wants to misfire at about 2000 rpms (or just run really crappy with no power). i replaced my spark plugs and there's no more oil going down there so i'm sort of lost as to what's going on. Here's a couple suggestions i've gotten but no ones been able to give me more than a guess: 1) you need a valve job, 2) check under the distributor cover, and 3) run cleaning products through the car to get rid of the gunk the excess oil left behind. I'm going with #3 at the moment just because it's the cheapest, but I still need help if it doesnt resolve the issue.

The pvc valve will always let some oil out into the intake to burn. That's normal. Now for the misfire at 2000 rpms, I believe you will have to clean out the EGR passages on your intake system. Basically, three of the four individual EGR passages are blocked up and when the EGR opens, it floods only one cylinder with exhaust gas, causing an extremely lean condition and misfire. It's not an easy task to do on that year Accord, but I think it's what's causing the misfire at high rpms, when the EGR valve opens.

Low power and acceleration on 1990 honda accord

Sounds like a bad motor bearing. Not good news. With all spark plugs out and belts to alternator, power steering, air conditioner, etc., loose, rotate the motor by hand to see if it's free.

1996 honda accord rough idle and dies

Do the following

Here are the most common causes of idle surge, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

1990 honda accord surges at idle, what can cause this?

It is likely a vacuum leak (from a hose or the intake manifold), or a sensor is not working properly (like the throttle position sensor, MAF sensor, idle air control ).
Spray carburetor cleaner around suspect areas to find a vacuum leak. The spray will be sucked into engine and raise idle. Spray around the intake manifold where it mates to head for leaks there.
Also check for trouble codes. Maybe a sensor threw a trouble code.
Good luck.

Where is pcv valve located on 1989 honda accord lxi

Locate the air box on the top center of the engine towards the back. The PCV valve is located on the rear, underside of the air box. Although on some Accord models, a small air box bracket may be present, which will block view and access to the PCV valve plugged into the intake manifold. If by chance the bracket is there, then remove the retaining nuts, holding it to the air box side with the ratchet and a socket. Reach onto the intake manifold with a pair of needle nose pliers, and gently pull the PCV hose and valve out of the grommet of the intake manifold. Hope this helps!!!

Hi i have a 1990 Honda Accord 2.0. Is it normal for oil to be down in the spark plugs under the Head area?

No it isn't..the problem is caused by failed spark plug seals on the valve cover. There is a seal for each spark plug tube and the ends can get brittle and allow oil to seep into the tubes. You can get new ones at most any auto parts store and the are easy to replace. Another way for oil to get into the tubes is if the vavle cover is taken off and when it is put back on the seals aren't "worked" around the tubes. When I do it I use a very thin screwdriver and go around each sparkplug tube to make sure the lip of the seals is not caught by the tube and cut.

Where is the pcv valve located on a 88 honda accord Lxi, fuel injected? i'm trying to replace it and can't seem to locate.

Follow the large (3/8 in) PCV vacuum hose from the front of the intake manifold plenum (lg silver box with label PGM-FI ). It turns toward the pass. side then down between intake maifold tubes/runners to the PCV valve.
