Most problems are the hose. One of them may be leaking. The pump may have a seal leak also. You can get a new hose at the auto parts store. It will cost about $20, and you can change it in about 20 minutes. As for the pump, that I can not tell you. You can check at the auto parts store, and do it yourself. If you take it to a shop, they will want about $80 an hour for labor alone, and charge about 2 hours plus part. They will mark up the price of the part (that's how they make their money). Please check your hoses first (they are rubber) and I hope that's it. Hope this helps.

It could be a simple fix .one of the connectors is loose /burst pipe.1st you have to locate where the leak is from.the cost again would depend on what's to fix.simple tightning of .... bust pipe ...faulty pump...etc

The noise you are hearing and feeling is very likely due to a low fluid level. I'd suggest you start by filling the power steering reservoir to the correct level with the correct fluid. Cycle the steering from lock to lock a few times to see if the noise gets better or goes away completely. Monitor the fluid level to determine how quickly the fluid leaks out and also to see if you can tell where the leak is coming from.

Be aware though that the longer you drive the car with a low fluid level condition, the more damage you will cause and the more expensive the repair will be.

Power steering hose, leaking. How to replace power steering hose.

You will have a leak from the pump, pressure hoses or the rack. You will have to get the system washed down and inspected for the leak, most common problem is the steering rack leaking, this will leak oil onto the exhaust and cause your smoking problem, start her.

Remove the power steering pump pulley.
Place a drain pan under the vehicle. Important: Cap or plug the ends of the power steering hoses to prevent fluid loss.
