Question about 2001 Jaguar S-Type

1 Answer

I have a 2001 Jaguar S-Type V8. I drove my car on the highway for over an hour last night, with no problems. But when I was idle shortly there after, it began to over heat. Also when I do city driving for about 45 minutes, it will begin to overheat. I checked the coolant reservoir and the ground, and it doesn't appear to be leaking. I tried to move the fan blades while the car was off and they do not "free wheel." I did see something that appeared to be a leak on the front right side about 5 days ago. But haven't since seen that leak.

Should the fan blades be able to "free wheel" while the car is off? Would it take that long for the car to overheat if the thermostat was the issue?

A couple of possibilities. You should consider changing thermostat and coolant. Also fan belt that drives waterpump should be replaced, and lastly new radiator/coolant cap (they do loose ability to hold pressure)

What happens at slow speeds if fan belt is loose or slipping, waterpump doesn't turn fast enough to circulate coolant causing overheat condition. While a highway speeds fresh air keeps coolant cool enough not to overheat. Re: Fan freewheeling,: depending on condition of your fan clutch - when motor is cold no it shouldn't free wheel, when it's warmed up yes - it actually spins faster when it's warm. If you flush the system, replace radiator cap, belt

Do jeep V8 engines last beyond 100k miles?

V8 engine,on the norm, will last a good long time,if they have been taken care of,and continue being maintained.Highway miles of course are always a plus, when asking about the vehicle,if the truth be told, but look, listen, and drive is the best way to be sure of what you are buying, the ignition switch is a good place to observe, the lock, and key cylinder,is it worn>is the key worn?the wrighting on the key,and it`s trademarks, are they still there,or worn off,and how bad? This will tell you if it was a start and go vehicle,or not, could be a vehicle that was drove long distances instead of short stop and go .

2001 Jaguar S-Type 3.0

I own an '01 S-Type and have had to many problems to list, however 3 months ago mine started riding rough, the check engine light actually started blinking and it shook pretty bad especially at stop lights (although it didn't shut off) I drove it straight to the shop and they said it was a bad ignition coil (coil #4) - $135 total and it ran fine. 2 months later coil #5 went. I was advised that if you take it to the dealer they will replace all 6 ignition coils at once charging you over $1,000. They are only about $60 a part stores. Good Luck I'm getting rid of my Jag this week! What a pain in the neck beauty!
