That car does have a distributor cap. It has coil packs. Trace your spark plug wires to find them.

2000 Mitsubishi Diamante / car starts but will not turn over, replaced spark plugs, wires, rotor, distributor cap , and new starter

Make sure that the timing belt has not failed. Regular maintenance service is every 60,000 miles. Also, perform a compression check on all cylinders and compare for proper specs.

Firing order 1999 mitsubishi diamonte need diagram

The firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6

The rotor spins counter clockwise and bottom of the distributor cap is the number one spark plug lead.

For more details, you can check the information about Mitsubishi Galant/Mirage/Diamante 1990-2000 FIRING ORDERS in Autozone.com (free register).

Hope this helps.

Distributor problems

Best way is to replace cap and rotor and see if that eliminates the undesireable symptoms. Not that expensive versus a new distributor.
