IF you think you have a vacum leak, start the engine and then using carb cleaner spray with the tube attached, spray in the suspected area. If it is leaking the RPM's will go up. DO NOT spray on the exhaust manifold!!

    My 2002 Taurus accelerator runs too high. How do I adjust it?


    The idle on this vehicle is computer controlled and there is no adjustment available. You may have an issue with the idle air control motor or possibly a vacuum leak allowing unmetered air to enter the engine. Inspect all vacuum hoses for disconnect/cracked hosing. Is check engine light on? If so, have codes scanned to possibly point you in the right direction with any faults that may have been stored in the computer

    Have you used a OBD-II scanner to find your issue? The car will help you find out what is needed to fix it. Remember to clear the settings after fixing something. This will help pinpoint your issue. If the same issue arises then the issue is another part. Read those codes supplied with the unit. It will help eliminate possible multiple problems.     Could a clogged fuel filter couse high idle while idling in park? would the computer have anything to do with this?


    Fuel filter could no possible way do it, Sounds like a vacume leak most likely, Or a Bad IAC (Idle air controll) Computer controlls strategy but thats not likely your issue

    Idel issue after air intake install


    Your problem sounds like have air leakage from air induction system. I suggest you to re-check the gasket of Air Intake Manifold you installled or vacuum hoses for possible air leaking.
    The easy way to check it, use Throttle Body or Carburator Spray Cleaner. Just spray around intake manifold where gaskets fitted and observe the idle speed, once the idle change or encrease, definetly there is air leak and you have check the gasket or replce it if necessary.
    But if doesn't make change, I suggest you to check Idle Air Control Valve, check connector plug, lines and if you have donor unit try to do test part.

    Engine is surging when its idiling


    Idle Air Control valve issue possibly. If the car runs good off idle I would inspect for vacuum leaks first. Spray water sparingly and listen for anything getting sucked in.. If no leaks are found I would suspect this valve. Also as a test you could unplug the throttle position sensor and see if something changes. Testing components is really the way to go before replacing parts if you know how and have the right multimeter. Also if the car has a maf sensor near the air filter make sure no leaks are in the tube to the throttle body.

    You need to do some basic tests to eliminate or get closer to the issue. Possibilities: 1) Fuel delivery 2) Ignition signal lost temporarily 3) Engine air leak - causes rough slow idle/stalling. 4) Bad MASS air flow sensor. etc, etc.

    If you have the check engine light on, rent a scanner, read out the code(s), and pursue to repairs. Possible problems are: idle air valve, vacuum leak (hoses and loose bolts) on intake manifold, EGR valve defective or not properly controlled, PCV valve defective, sticky injectors, bad plugs/wiring, O2 sensor, ect.. Use the scan codes to replace parts--don't just start swapping parts till it works.
