Question about 1996 Honda Accord

Car dies while running

1996 accord 4dr ex . The car will run fine at highway speeds (70mph) for 50 to 80 miles . then start dying and restarting for awhile . then stop running. let the car sit for an hour and it will run fine for another 50-80 miles.

I found a burnt spot on the coil and replaced it , I have ordered a main relay . It seems something is heating up ...but I'm not sure what all this car has for relays etc , and my manual isn't telling me much.

Any ideas if the main relay dosen't help ??

I replaced the main relay drove the car around and actually drove to work.I went to make a left turn up a small incline and the car cut off. A multitude of things ran thru my mind ...could it be the battery ,fuel pump etc....Now I'm at work wondering if I will make it home

Have you replaced the distributer cap as well? Check for carbon build up inside the cap and on the rotor itself.

Why does my 93 Honda Accord run fine and then dies going down the road and will start again and die again?

There is a black fuel relay way up under the top left driver side dash that breaks its main wire solder connections on the circuit board under over-heat conditions. Resolder that relay. Starting fluid will show that you have lost fuel delivery under no start conditions. You can use the breather hose from the valve cover for this test.

Engine dying while running full speed and sometimes at idle. Appears to be an ignition problem. At highway speeds the truck will restart itself while in drive. At slower speeds it has to be put in neutral...

This is an electrical problem, I had this last winter where the car was restarting or the starter was not disengaging. The problem was with the starter. the contacts that meet the plunger in the starter were grooved severely and binded with the contacts.
I had to replace the contacts inside the starter.

Car dies going down the highway after about 20 miles then starts back and dies again some times it starts right away sometimes after 5/6 tries always restarts???? no code some times when it starts dieing...

Had this happen with a Honda Accord: carb icing.
You do not have a carb.
Had this happen with a newer Honda, bad ignition switch. It was intermittent. $24 and one hour fixed it.
Good luck

Hi,i have a 96 accord 4 cyl. vtec. just recently there has beeen a power loss issue. i have changed the alternator, check the ignition switch, tested fuses , battery seems fine, connections are good no...

check the alternator voltage , it has to be 13.8 to 14.4 vdc. it sounds like your car is running off the battery alone. Sometimes a bad battery will take out an alternator, and after replacing it goes again.Check all connections, and check the feedback terminal on the alternator is telling the alternator to switch on.
