Question about 1986 Ford F 350

1 Answer

I have an '86 Ford F-350 XL (has the 7.5L 460cu in engine) that ive had for a little while now, and for some reason every once in a while i will try and brake and i will have it to where my brakes go "soft" and have to pump them a couple times to regain normal brake pedal pressure. I have checked the cylinders in the drums and the brake fluid level, both are fine, and no leaks from the hoses as far as i can tell. I am most concerned about this as my wife will drive the truck periodically and isnt a particularly good driver and may not know how to react if this occurs. Only other thing i can think of is that the brake lines need to be bled, but would like another opinion before i do that. - Timothy McGuire

86 Ford truck WONT start

Sounds like bad advice. If your glow plugs are bad, the last thing you want to do is try to start it. Remember, diesel engines use these glow plugs like coils in a toaster. Since diesel is harder to burn than gasoline, the glow plugs heat up to a combustible temperature, allowing the diesel to ignite and your vehicle to start. I don't know the reprocussions of trying to start it without them working...but it can't be good.

1986 GMC 6.2L Diesel Glow Plugs will not cycle

there is a glow plug relay mounted to the rear of the engine try jumping across it to run the glow plugs and see if it will start then (these relays fail quite often)

I believe that you may just have a bad float in the carburator i had the same problem in a similar truck after i rebuilt the carb and also changed the float it solved the problem.

Swap a 86 350 into a 91 camaro with a 305 TBI

good idea, use 350 block,305 heads &intake.the reason is, if the 91 305 heads are 4 bolts in center of valve cover the are what you call vortec heads, they have better flow.the tbi will respond better &still have bettergas milage than old style heads.the 350 block will add more overall power.you shouldnt have any problems doing so,you will notice a diff.have fun, good luck.
