Question about Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

I have 1999 Dodge caravan which will not start. With the battery ground hooked up the battery voltage is 9.35volts with it disconnected the voltage is 12.56. I have removed all the fuses and the ground returns when you reconnect the ground cable. Is there anything that has a hot 12+volts that does not come from the fuse block other than the starter?

Why does my 2005 dodge grande caravan turns over too slow to start?. Relpaced starter, had battery tested . tried boosting still no luck. please help

Sounds like you have a big draw on the battery that's not being caused by the starter. Try using a VOM to check the voltage at the starter during cracking. Also check for any voltage readings between the neg battery post and any ground point, the reading should be zero. Any voltage at all here indicates a complete circuit between the battery and ground where there should not be any as long as the ignition switch is off.

How to install a alternator for a 1999 dodge grand caravan se 3.0 liter

Best thing to do is to go to the public library and look in the Reference section for a repair manual for this vehicle. I could go into how to do it, but it is actually pretty straight forward as far as repairs are considered. Just be sure to disconnect the battery before performing any of the repair. (disconnect the ground cable)

You will have to remove the drive belt before removing the alternator.

My 2000 Dodge Caravan will not start

Sounds similar to my old 94 dodge ram. Battery died at least I thought, replaced it and truck would not turn over. After about three hours of playing around I start checking all my wires and connections any loose wires I tighten or replaced if they looked worn or bad. And I found a ground wire was not connected to frame it came loose. Tightened it and hooked battery up and it started.

The car is starting but when I take of the negative cable the car would shut of . It does'nt do it with the positive cable.

You are removing(disconnecting) the ground circuit from the electrical system. The ground is very critical in vehicles with computers. With the engine running the alternator supplies power even if the positive cable is disconnected. Why would you disconnect the battery with the engine running, anyway? Be careful, any sparks around a battery can cause it to explode.

I have a dodge gran caravan 3.3 engine and the horn does not work

Only one wire?? then its a ground wire, grounds a relay to energize the horn, disconnect the horn and see if you have voltage to it , if not it could be the relay, steering column not grounding, or a bad wire.

Starts and runs with booster cables hooked up but when you disconnect the cables it just dies why

alternator is bad. in most cases when applying jumper cables to your battery if the cars starts and u remove them its casue your stealing power from the source not the alternator.
