Are you talking about the headlamps? Can you operate the headlamps manually instead of auto, does it make any difference? In the past on different makes and models, I've seen headlamp intensity brighten and dim because of faulty battery cable.

I have a 1992 lincoln town car and replaced alt and battery. on idle its at 14.4 and then soon as i accelerate to about 1500rpms lights dim and voltage drops to 12.2 and battery light comes on let off gas...

I would go back to the power and ground cables. First, you checked grounds and cleaned them. Do you have all the grounds in place. From the battery, you should have a ground from the battery to body, battery to the engine and from the engine to the body. Positive side should be from the battery to the alternator, battery to the starter and battery to the under hood fuse panel. Check these cables also. Since you 14 volts going to 12 volts, I would suspect a engine to body ground or corrosion at the fuse panel plugs/connectors.

Check the old alt. to see if it is really bad . next , run the engine and check the new alt. output . place volt meter across the battery terminals , shoul read 14 to 14.5 volts , if it is not , the new alt. is bad if it is ok the battery is probably bad

14 is good, (10 is bad). Any other issues with the electrical system?
The gauge may just be off a little. If you put a voltmeter on the battery with engine running, it should show anywhere from about 13.5-14.5 volts. That's the alternator output to charge the battery and run the car's electrical systems.
If voltage truly dropped to 10 volts when car was running, I think your check engine light would come on, and there would be serious issues with lights flickering and dimming. Check the alternator output. Good luck.

Just replaced the battery. After one week, the battery is dead. The alternator was replaced last year. After recharging the battery, all the lights, controls and gauges are flickering on and off. Not...

Alternators can and do fail, even after a year-you should have at least 14 volts when the car is running, at the battery. Because you say you are getting a flickering, I would check connections at the battery (they need to be really clean, the battery posts AND the insides of the clamps). Also, check the connection at the starter and the ground to the engine from the battery-after you know you are getting that 14 volts at the battery while the car is at idle.

1985 dodge powerwagon, lights went dim driving home now wont start, just replaced battery 6 months ago. starter clicked at first then nothing.

The alternator may not be charging the battery. Jump start it, and use a volt meter at the battery, red lead to positive and black to neg. The meter should read between 13 and almost 15 volts, any lower than 13 volts, the alternator is no good. (this is done with vehicle running).

5 to 10 minutes after the sensor triggers my headlights on, my headlights go out and my gauges on my dash begin to jump up every couple seconds. There is a clicking sound when it happens and my lights dim...

Check your battery connections and do a voltage test to battery with engine running lights off, then check with lights on. You need a minimum of 12.5 volts but should have 13-14 volts even with lights.

When I turn the ignition on the battery light comes on and the voltage gauge drops between 9 & 14. Then it slowly goes up to around 14. I replaced the battery. Alternator??

take volt meter check voltage on batt.while truck is idling, voltage should be between 13.5-14.5v,turn headlights on it should stay in that range if it goes below, check for bad wire connection at alt.,if conn. are ok,theres a good chance alt. not charging properly!before doing test make sure batt.is full charge!

Elec problem between alternator and battery

Rest at ease the 14 volts will not hurt your system idealy your alt will charge at around 14 to 14,5 volts at the alternator and probably have a slightly lower charge rate at your battery at around 14 to 13.5 at the battery this is completely normal
