There could be several reasons why your 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan sliding door is not latching properly. Here are some possible causes:
Obstruction in the Door Track: Check the door track for any debris, dirt, or foreign objects that may be blocking the door from closing fully. Clean the track and remove any obstructions.
Broken or Misaligned Door Hinges: If the door hinges are damaged or misaligned, the door may not close properly. Inspect the hinges for any signs of damage or wear and replace them if necessary.
Damaged Latch or Actuator: The latch or actuator that holds the door in place may be damaged or malfunctioning, preventing the door from closing properly. Inspect the latch and actuator for any signs of damage and replace them if necessary.
Dead Battery: If the battery in your Dodge Grand Caravan is weak or dead, the electronic functions of the sliding door may not work properly. Check the battery and replace it if necessary.
Faulty Door Control Module: The sliding door may be controlled by a door control module, which may be faulty or damaged. Have the control module tested and replaced if necessary.
In any case, it's recommended that you take your vehicle to a certified mechanic or dealership to diagnose and fix the issue, especially if you are unable to get the door closed manually.
possible that the latch is already in the 1/2 closed position
put a round bar ( screw driver ) under the latch and pull the latch out as you press the handle as if opening the door
with the door open see if latch is stuck in close position . If so hold handle open and pry with screwdriver to open latch ..If that works latch needs to be lubed for smooth operation
spray the latch catch with oil or silicone to loosen the latch mechanism than stick something [a screwdriver/ pen ] that u can use to push the catch upward to open push on catch while lifting handle if catch falls back either latch spring still frozen or latch spring broken and needs replacement
part of the problem with being in such a cold place is even tho its so cold there is still moisture in the air. if you door wont close or open, you need to check the latch out and make sure its not just bent. as for not being able to unlock you door. the latching system is connected to the lock and handle. if the latch wont move don't use wd-40 that will make it worse. you need to pull open the door panel and get it greased with a grease gun. wd-40 will not keep the parts moving in that kind of cold. if latch wont reset when you get it open, it wont close. just grease it up. oh it would help if you get water guard for your windows. protect you parts from freezing. take care.
I have shaved door handles on a 2000 chevy silverado and the drivers side door just recently stopped opening it seems like its completely locked out and the door is closed so i cannot get to the bolts of the latch assembly when i hit the unlock button it unlocks half way and when you go to open the door it relocks itself even if you manually try to unlock the door and hold the lock forward it still wont open
You will have to roll window down and take very long screw driver to insert through glass opening and beak up latch assembly then door will open ,Then remove door panel and will be able to replace latch,Best done by proffessioal, one mistake can cost.
