Take it to your local Autozone, advance, etc.. parts store and have them do a FREE fault check. They'll print out the faults for you and reset your light(s)

What does a P0049 Code mean on a 2008 Chevy Corvette

HI Donna.

Are you sure the code is P0049? I have a little book that came with my code reader and I see a code under Chevrolet listed as P0449 which relates to the Evap Cooler Solenoid Malfunction, but nothing on the code you listed. I'm assuming the Check Engine Light (CEL) is on? One question for you too... have you recently filled the gas tank? I'm thinking the seal on the gas cap might be bad? Let me know or if you can attach an image of the code, I can be of more assistance.

Check engine light on and tighten gas cap comes on. I've replace the gas cap and it still happens. 2006 Denali 6.0L engine

I just repaired this problem this past weekend. It is the Emission Control Solenoid. It is located next to the fuel tank. The cost of the part is about $30.00 from the dealer. It has one electrical connection and one hose attached. The total repair, including jacking the truck up was about 20 minutes.

My check engine light came on code P0446; dashboard says "check gas cap" i took it off retightened it and check engine light still on. I noticed that the metal flap for the gas nozzle is...

The metal flap should not trigger the sensor. Once you tighten the gas cap you should clear the code and see if it comes back. Otherwise it will take a while to go away.
If it does come back even though the gas cap is tight it could be the rubber seal around the gas cap replacing that can sometimes fix this issue also.

I left my gas cap off after fillig upand the next day and the check engine came on.

The check engine light will come on when you leave the gas cap off or don;t put it back on securely. If you have replaced it, just disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes and the light should go off. If it comes back on then there is a different problem that needs to be addressed.

I'm getting gascap error and check engine light. What's causing the issue?

If you allready checked the gas cap and its on right.
Try replacing the gas cap with a new one.
You should here air wen you open the gas cap after driving
This is part of the emision controls and if it dosn't seal it will cause the check engine light to come on .

2006 Saturn Relay Check Engine Light

PO455 is a large evaporative fuel leak. A bad fuel cap is ONE of the things that COULD be the problem. Fuel system cleaning only lightened your wallet. Reading your post is confusing. Did all this start AFTER the Valvoline Wallet Flushing? If so , they left something loose or disconnected. I would find a qualified repair shop to fix the problem, and if it has anything to do with what Valvoline did, make them pay the bill.

Check Engine Light won't go off

If you have an Advance Auto Parts store where ever you are, they will read the code and tell you exactly what to code is and what it means. Any mechanic who "guesses" isn't a mechanic at all - he's a thief. Emissions leak can be any number of things, but not the gas cap!

Gas Cap Error with Check Engine light

By "Replace the gas cap", do you mean put it back on, or buy another one? If you fuel these trucks with the engine running, or don't tighten the gas cap, the light will come on. It will also come on when the seal in your gas cap goes bad. I have had to replace the gas cap on my jeep and dodge already. It fixed the problem both times.
