They both work off of the same cable, so I would say that you have a problem in the speedometer head itself and will need replacing or sent in for repair.

Need to replace odometer cable

A broken cable will have neither the odometer or the speedometer working. If your speedometer is working, then the odometer gears in the dash have stripped or come loose, and should be replaced. If the cable needs replacing, pull the cluster out of the dash and unclip the cable end from the speedometer, and unscrew the bottom fitting of cable from the transaxle.

I have a 2000 dodge v6 magnum pickup truck and the speedometer does not work and i wanted to know if there is a fuse that i can replace in the fuse box in the truck itself and under the hood that could...

to save you some time and money take it to a shop and have them put it on a scan tool to see what code if any is in the computer and they can also see what is working and not working while driving the car.this way they can tell you what should be checked out or replaced so you don`t throw a bunch of parts and money you didn`t need to, to fix the problem.it could be the speed sensor at the transmission the connection or the speedometer buffer in the system in the dash or the speedometer head or bad connections at the cluster.

All my gauges work except my speedometer. What is going on?

Check your speedometer cable at both ends and make sure it is on tight. If the speeometer cable is the original cable it might be time to replace it with a new one. The cable will wear out over time and cause your speedometer to stop working when you drive your car. A replacement cable will cost around $15. If your speedometer cable is good and in working order then you will have to have your instrument cluster repaired. Take a trip to your local junk yard and find your vehicle and then remove that instrument cluster and replace your broken unit. This is cheaper then having your original instrument cluster rebuilt at a shop. If your instrument cluster is digital, check the fuse box located underneath the drivers side steering wheel and locate the "instrument cluster" or "speedometer" fuse. Pull it out and replace it with the same number fuse. To remove your instrument cluster, remove the four phillips screws holding your plastic bezel that surrounds the cluster and then remove the four phillips screws that hold the instrument cluster in place. Now pull it away from the dash and disconnect the electrical plugs. This is very easy to do at home using a phillips screwdriver. If you have any more question, feel free to contact me.

Doesn't sound like the transmission. Your cable is probably stretched out and needs to be replaced. Yes, you can take out the cluster in less than 20 minutes

2000 Dodge Grand Caravan Speedometer and Tach not working

sit in the drivers seat close the door. with the key off hold the trip odometer button in then while holding the button in turn the key on. if done correctly this will put the MIC (mechanical instrument cluster) into a self test. if the speedometer does not move like the rest of the gauges during this test the MIC must be replaced. if the speedometer does move it is likely your problem will be fixed, however, if the speedometer does move but it does not start working properly then further diagnostic will be needed.

Hello I hope this is helpful. The speedometer works off a small black cable, that run's from the back of the speedometer under the dash to the transmission even if the line looks good it can still be broken inside the line. The line's are real cheap you might want to try to replace it. Hope this helps. Tim
