Question about 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT
I have a 1999 grand am and the security light keeps coming on. when i try to start it, it wont start. why is this happening and what can i do to keep it from happening?
I believe that vehicle has a 'PATS' antitheft system. There's a special 'chip' in the key that tells the car it's the original key and not a copy.
There is a way to 'hack' the antitheft but, to maintain the security of everyone that has a system like this in thier vehicle I won't post it.
Like for most factory codes for radio's or other antitheft system problems if you bring your vin# and/or registration (vin is on there too) and maybe state licence to prove you own the car, you can walk into a dealer and get the help you need without bringing the car in.
Decent dealerships will know everything from a vin#.
If they wan't you to bring it in, it's because they wan't to make money for it because they need to get a number off of a module or other service that you may not be able to do. Try a different place.
Also a car audio place can help if the installer's are talented and familiar with remote starts.

a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Mechanic (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
