Question about 2000 Plymouth Voyager

1 Answer

My tranny is whining after 20 miles., drive long enough and i can only go 40 with high rpm. Its fine when I shut it off for a while. It actually sounds alot better now than when I had it put in.I was putting fluid in only if the holes were clear. Now it has a ton of fluid in it,I think i was scared to overfill but i panicked and put a quart in so I could see a real level, like the oil dipstick, not just film over the holes.Do i need to flash it.Everything is new, sensors, solenoid, fluid.

  • Shift Solenoid 'B' Stuck Off (read the FSM page on 756 it tells you how to do the checks )

  • if 756 is cleared. (reset it using the scan tool, drive 20 miles, still set?)?

if you get them clear, all DTCs
do the tranny stall test. stated n the FSM.
stall the torque converter. in 1st gear, parked.
if rpm is too low the engine has power issues
if Rpm is way too high (slip?) bad tranny. (or wires to it)

96 Buick LeSabre Oil Pressure issue

Well Serenity, it sounds like your car has a few problems. You are right about not driving it with the oil light on. Have it towed. The shop can scan for engine codes w/out starting the vehicle. There should be some trouble codes stored on the car's computer if the engine light went on and off. This will give your mechanic some clues as to what is wrong. Ask for the code #'s in case you have any questions later. It sounds like tranny and engine problems. Your description is quite good, lots of detail. I just read a post that said 'car won't start.' Not much to go on! It's difficult to diagnose w/out seeing/hearing/driving the car, but no details?? Anyway, when I started to read your post, I was thinking power steering pump (making the noise), until you mentioned the oil pressure issue, which points to engine lubrication issues, and probably the noise. The rpm's running a bit high before transitioning (I take that as 'shifting'), sounds like a slipping tranny, but maybe it's just part of the engine problem. Difficult to diagnose further w/out more info (codes), but it sounds like your engine may be cooked. Give an update w/ any more info or further questions. Good luck, Curt

Continuous "whine" @ 1500 RPM only; and jerks/2001 Lincoln LS

Run the car from the top of a hill and let it coast at your whining speed. Put it in Neutral, does the whine disappear?
If not its in the drivetrain (wheels, driveshafts, tranny)
Very unlikely to be the timing belt. If it appears at a fixed speed then its drivetrain, if it whines at fixed revs its the engine.
Most likey the transmission I fear....Tires will also make loud whining noise too though...

The first thing you need to fix is the fact that it will not go into park. I think the shift lever is maladjusted. There should be a way to adjust it near the transmission. Get this dealt with because I am thinking it could be a simple problem. If after you get it adjusted, it still does not immediately kick in to drive, then I think you have a serious tranny problem. You did not say how many miles were on the car, but if it has high miles (more than 100,000) and it has not ever been rebuilt, then it will probably need to be. The trannys in these Explorers were notoriously bad.

When I drive my Mazda 626 (97) in high way, at about 110 KM/Hour speed. Sometime the tachometer will suddenly go up and come down (e.g. go up to 4000 RPM or 5000 RPM from normal say 3000 RPM in one or two...

Does your Mazda have a standard trans (clutch), or automatic.
If it's automatic, the tranny might be slipping, and if it's a standard shift the clutch may be slipping. Does the actual driving speed (not engine rpm's) seem to stay the same when this happens? If you are still traveling at the same speed even though the engine speeds up, it's your tranny or clutch. I don't think the timing belt and tensioner have anything to do with this. countrycurt0
