Question about 1994 GMC Sonoma

1 Answer

Fuel Pump Fuse Blows. It first started when I turned a corner. Changed fuel pump. Idles fine now, step on gas, still runs fine. When I go to move the truck, then fuel pump fuse blows. Especially when I try to turn corner to get it home. One time, stop light fuse blew the same time. One time, just started up truck and the fuse blew. As clutch needs to be pushed in to start truck, could that have something to do with it blowing? Someone said it could be the ignition switch. Also, looked for the fuel pump relay but can't find it. Truck does not have a glove box so where is the relay? Could relay be shorting out? I wiggled and moved the wires while truck is running but it doesn't cut out. Need help please. This has gone on for over two weeks not since the 15th of December. Most likely a bad ground but where and would that cause the fuse to blow? A bad ground or connection to ground?

Open the hood. Those vehicles have a buss bar on the inside of the drivers side front fender. ( a buss bar is a strip of plastic, housing locations for wiring connectors running to various components on your car. They are secured to each post by a phillips head screw.) One of those locations is the "hot" for your fuel pump. If by chance you have an exposed section of that wire touching metal somewhere, it will blow the fuse. maybe someone has wired something else to it...causing it to blow.

My fuel fuse for my 95 ford escort lx keeps blowing what could be causing this

The only time it blows is when you step on the gas and the car is moving and you're shifting from 1st to second. So if you left the car alone ...just start it and let it idle sitting still ...the fuse doesn't blow.

If that's the case then I would be looking at wiring. Like something is creating a dead short and blowing the fuse. Once the pump is running ...and that's typically when an electrical motor will draw its highest amp draw ...it stays running. My inclination is there is some kind of short and it happens when you move the clutch, the shifter or the throttle. Something is rubbing or coming in contact with the main power wire to the fuel pump. That's where I would start looking ....

Runs idle but stalls when give gas

Yes. Sometimes the internal screen deteriorates and clogs the fuel pump. You might want to replace the fuel filter and blow through it to see if it was clogged too.

I have a 93 K3500 with a 454. Truck was running fine, started no problem, ran great. Driving the other day, turn the corner and the engine quit. Cranked the engine, fired up for 2-3 seconds then quit, ...

Before starting the engine, the fuel pump should only run for a few seconds when the key is first turned, to pressurize the fuel system. Even though the pump appears to be running, you may either have not enough or too much pressure for the engine to keep running (fuel pump or pressure regulator). I think it may just be a coincidence the engine quit while turning a corner, but the gas in your tank may have been so low it sloshed away from what is likely a very old pump, starving it and causing it to failure.

Where is the fuel pump on a 2002 ford taurus

Inside gas tank. Need to drop tank. You also need a special tool to release sending unit from fuel lines. I would get the whole unit not just the pump.

2000 1500 Sierra will not stay running step on gas act like its running out of gas. Popped top fuel line gas came poured outbut didn't pump out when i rolled the engine over. Got underneath the fuel cell...

Replace the fuel pump and fuel filter to correct the problem you are having. Without the proper fuel pressure the engine will not run at all. Hope this will help you. You might check the fuse/relay panel for a blown fuse or relay in it to make sure you are getting power to fuel pump before you go to the trouble of removing the pump and fuel filter. Hope this will help you.

Ford 460 loses power then dies. Starts back up. Idles fine.

It sounds like you might have a clogged catalatic converter on the exhaust system.

Keep blowing fuse for fuel pump

If it takes more than a couple of hours to blow the fuse its most likely the fuel pump. If it blows instantly you could have a grounded out feed wire (+) wire or a bad relay. Look in the haynes manual to get the location of the relay.
