2001 Chevrolet Cavalier Logo
Posted on Jan 02, 2011

I have a bunch of issues with my 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier..... 1. Service ABS and Trac Off lights are all on. I assume it all has to do with my back brakes which are locking up. Feels like more of the Driver side back brake but its probably both. Any ideas ? 2. Check Engine light is on. My wife lost my gas cap one day during the summer and bought a universal one. I'm wondering if thats the problem. 3. My heater only works on the highest setting. When I move the setting down the heater goes off completely. 4. My headlights : They work on High Beams and the Daytime Running Lights work, but my actual headlights dont work at all. For about a month my DRLs didnt work but they seem to have come back over time, but my actual headlights have remained out. Thanks for any help that can be given to me in fixing these problems.

Trac off light coming on

You have a check light or MIL Lamp on

Nothing new there

Same as any other vehicle issue

Check for codes & diagnose & repair ,in
your case, the ABS braking System & Trac Control

Anytime you have a transmission issue, you stop
using the vehicle immediately, just a few miles to get
home or to a shop is all you got, then the damage starts

My check engine light and trac off light is on and it will not start.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5821173-doesnt_car_start_gasoline_engines . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

I assume it will crank, so check for spark and fuel. After you get it started, we can work on the engine light and trac off issues.

2004 Cavalier-ABS and Trac light warnings

no you need to take it and have the codes pulled on it, the abs system will disable the traction control system.Without knowing what the codes are for the abs system it would not be possible to say what the problem is.

Chevy Cavalier 2001 ABS Brake problem

You don't say what brakes.

I have had many cavys and worked on them. Great cars.

Your problem sounds like a **** rear wheel cylinder and bad drums/rotors and abs sensor wire.

My car just did everything you describe, I put in new wheel cylinders, drums, brakes, rotors, and 2 new rear brake lines. For less than 200 bucks the car is like new again and has well over 100k.

You can do it yourself. Doesn't take special tools. I followed online how-to's.

Low trac light

I had the exact same problem with my 2004 Cavlier. I took it in and the dealer said it was a voltage problem with my speed regulator located in one of my wheel bases. I had it replaced under my extended warenty. I suguesst taking you car to a mechnanic as soon as possible, cause it could be that sensor, or an electrical issue all together. Especially if it is that sensor, since it effects your braking system, traction system, and the overall drivability of the car.

Enhanced Traction System Warning Light (TRAC OFF)

Sometimes it's a complaint with the ABS braking system. If it comes on and you have no other problems and stays on for while, check your brakes. I have had this issue before and had my brakes replaced. They were worn but for some reason were not squeaking.
